Hm. I am totally loving this Good Things caper. It puts me in a whole other frame of mind. I can’t wait to see what Good Thing unfolds in my day. And as the weeks go on, I can’t wait to add in lots of Good Things for people who DON’T live at my house! Are you playing too? You can join in at anytime and Do Good at your own pace, in your own way.
Today I de-cluttered 2 bags for the Op Shop. I’m going to try and do a bag each day, because my house is like a museum of cute/interesting stuff and it’s overwhelming me a bit. If you’ve read Gretchen Rubin’s SUPER ACE book, The Happiness Project, you might know that Gretchen is the Queen Bee for De-Cluttery. She has the Out Darn Stuff mentality and sometimes gets in trouble for enthusiastically encouraging others to de-hoard and straighten up. I think enabling de-cluttery is a great trait. And great traits are to be celebrated, rather than slapped on the wrist. I celebrate your sorted intentions, Ms Rubin! (But please don’t come to my house because you may faint when you see the THINGS. I fear I am the Queen Bee of Cluttery!)
In light of all this, I am turning over a new leaf. I am going to get rid of lots of STUFF. 2012 is going to be my year to transform into the Queen Bee of Clutter Free! Well. To a certain extent. Probably my idea of clutter free is the next person’s idea of chaos. But I WILL try.
xx Pip

Good Thing : De-Cluttering

Join A Year Of Good Things :: Be A Daily Do-Gooder

Our first Good Thing of the year was for our son. He was invited out for Hogmanay & we didn't have any plans so we decided to re-paint & delcutter his room. Thankfully he liked the colour we chose (we were prepared to re-paint if he didn't) & we did let him choose what he wanted back in his room. The rest is off to charity shops, my husband's school etc. Now for the rest of the house!
I'm jumping on board with the Good Thing.
It definitely changes your outlook for the day. I have my phone remind me every morning.
I can't believe how you manage to convey so much enthusiasm over the internet! Its catchy!!
i totally agree Gretchen Rubin's book is SUPER ACE! i also read 'the joy of less' another inspiring book for decluttering! go pip!
I'm joining you in the de-cluttering. I think I'm going to scare myself when I see just how much crappity crap I actually have x
Yes, I've been decluttering for the last 6 months, and still going! While the op-shop is awesome, I also recommend jumping on Ebay (you may as well recoup a couple of $) or also swap.com and ziilch.com.
oh, and I love the way your shoes goes with the rubbish bag handles.
I haven't read Gretchen Rubin's book yet but it is winging it's way to me as we type! A Christmas present to myself 🙂 I can't wait to read it after you and a couple of other people have given it really good reviews recently. Thanks!
Yes, and I hope to go on a decluttering binge this year too.
hello Pip, oh what a topic that is singing to me today! I have spent the entire day emptying out cupboards and drawers and sorting through piles and piles of STUFF!! I have filled 3 bags of rubbish (!!!) and 5 bags of good stuff for Vinnies (yay). And I bought the Happiness Project after I saw it on your blog – finished it over Christmas so now I am determined too. Love your yellow shoes, they smarten up those bin bags very nicely. cat. x.
Okay, I clearly have a clutter problem too because I immediately began to wonder which opshop you might drop all your stuff at so I could go there and buy all your cool stuff!!
I love your Good Things idea! I am doing it too. I also love your yellow shoes 🙂
I completely agree! Last year I took part in the 365 Less Challenge where I got rid of one item a day. Living in a 1 room apartment, it was amazing that I had that much stuff! I love your photo and I wish you the best of luck de-cluttering! It is addicting. My boyfriend gets scared when I go on my binge rages.
