This is my project for 2012. It’s all about making Good Things happen. Do you want to join me? Do you want to be a Do-Gooder? Here are the details…
Every day of this year, do a Good Thing. It might be something good for yourself. It might be something good for your pet. It might be something good for a stranger, or your boyfriend or your wife or your child. It might be something good for your friend or the mailman or a neighbour or the lady at the bank. It’s up to YOU.
The great thing about this project is that you already do a Good Thing every day for someone. I know that you do! We’re just trying to slow things up a bit and take notice of the things you do.
Document the Good Thing. Maybe you do a zillion good things in a day, virtuous petal that you are. You only need to document ONE thing, though. I don’t want to overload you.
You can document your Good Thing on your blog as a blog post or just a short footnote (link back to this post if you do!)
You can document your good things in a journal of the good old pen and paper variety.
You can document it in the NOTES app on your iPhone.
You could even write the good thing on a piece of paper and take a photo of your scribblings.
You can make a video, a podcast, write a song about your Good Thing.
It’s up to you. It doesn’t have to be public. It can be a secret thing for your eyes only. If you would like to, keep in touch and let us know how you are documenting your Good Things. You can upload any photo entries to this Flickr group. And if you don’t want to do that, good for you!
We ARE Grateful. But this is not a gratitude project. This is a project about making MORE Good Things happen.
Notice other Good Things Look around you and notice the Good Things you see or the Good Things that other people are doing. You can document some of these too, if you would like to! Seems like a good idea, no?
Just Do Your Best If you can’t post daily, then set your own schedule. BUT try to DO a Good Thing daily, because that is the whole point of the thang! Edit : You can join the Good Things project at any time. You don’t have to start on Jan 01! Start when you like! Do a year. Or a month. Or a day!
Share Ideas Here is the Meet Me at Mike’s Facebook Page! Share your Good Thing ideas over there! Tell us what Good Things you have been doing! What Good Things have you seen?
So what do you say? Are you in? Do you want to be a Do-Gooder? Sign up by commenting below. Do-Gooders badge coming soon!
xx Pip

awesome I put-off buying this for months, despite positive reviews. I tried every free weather app going and eventually decided to take the plunge. Glad I did – easily the most customisable weather widget and clock on caftan and the skins are awesome!

I would like to join! It's easy to lose ourselves in our own lives so this should be a good way to put focus on others around us. A little of both! I don't blog every day but when I do maybe I'll condense my current list and post it. I love writing so I think I'll do the pen and ink as well. Great idea!
Bit late I know…
However I would love to join and be a Do-gooder.
This will force me to blog every day as I am a bit lazy;)
xo
I love this idea! I am onboard and already have managed to take a photo each day of something good. I hope it continues all year because it's amazing the good things I am now noticing!
I love this, I might have to join you too.
I'm off to start blogging about it :0)
What a sweet idea. Its one of my goals this year to promote kindness more in my house full of small humans & also on my blog. This sounds like it fits so nicely together. Might just join you! Thanks, Kate M xo
Just stumbled accross your blog – love this idea and would love to join in. I'm terrible at regular bloggin gbut will aim to do one thing every day and post about one each week.
Definitely Joining! I think it will be difficult to do this everyday, but then again it is a challenge, isn't it!?!
I am posting this challenge on my site. http://raggz2baggz.wordpress.com
Keep you updated once a week. Okay?
This is a wonderful idea. I will note my good things for the week offline and comment of one of them once a week. This is a great guiding principle to introduce int our lives
Count me in as well!
Hello – I'm signing in late, but I'd love to be part of this project.

LOVE this idea Pip. Im in!
Top notch idea old girl, you can count me in. I'll try and spread the word in Blighty. We can all be kinder, and we all need kindness. Reminiscent of Mrs. Doasyouwouldbedoneby, from one of my favourite books by the Rev. Charles Kingsley, The Water Babies.
Well done you.
Jean x
Great idea , I'm in and recording on my blog. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Pip,
I've joined the crew – will be blogging about it and have linked to your blog on mine, as you gave me the idea.
Much love and happiness from
Signe
Just the idea I needed! After a tiring 2011, this is just what I need to do and will make every effort to do regularly! I'm definitely in – what a great idea π
this is awesome x
Oh yes – what a fabulous idea! I adore it – improving oneself by seeing and doing good will have a major impact. I am in – just started today…thank you! xx
Fantabulous idea! I try my best! I really do! But as you say, it is sometimes hard to prioritise the good stuff form myself…..mmmh. So this year is my year of GREEN SMOOTHIES! That's right. Starting my day with green leafy goodness, lots of fruit and skip the coffee first thing. Makes me feel good and less grumpy at 11am….how about that?
alex
Considering myself signed-up. What a bloody wonderful idea π
Hi Pip, I started this morning. Not sure how often I will actually do it, but I'm keen!
Love to take part Pip… Love the idea and that you will remind me of my commitment… A pen and paper girl am I…
terrific pip! i have been running Weekly RAK swaps on swap-bot for nearly a year now where we swap stories of RAKs performed during the week. i'm also in the midst of producing a zine with a collection of RAK stories from the weekly RAK swap participants to hopefully inspire others called "good world".

Hi Pip

Nay
PS My dog Sophie is afraid of fans π
I decided this year that I would do a photo a day of something I was greatful for, I liked the idea because it forced me to chnge my thinking always looking for the positive but there was something that was not sitting right with me about the project and now I have seen this idea, It's so much more "Me". I'm a dooer (is that a word??) not a watcher. I'm in. Not sure how to document but i'll work it out. Thanks.
I'm in, most definitely. What a brilliant idea.
Over the past few days I've been pondering a lot about 365 days projects. Would that be something for me? Could I do it? Did I really want to? And then on january 1st I decided that well, eating vegetarian, going to bed on time and getting up early in the morning would just suit me fine, 365 days a year π But now, here's your post and yes, yes , yes I'm in! This will be my 365 days project for this year. Starting today. I will still have to find a way to document, will probably use my blog http://www.tikkiescheef.blogspot.com for that, but any way, yes, I'm in!!!!
Hi Pip!
So this is actually one of my new year's resolution, love it! Count me in!
I have started yesterday and I decided I would write it on my journal and every month I would pick the nicest think and make a story of it, publishing it in my blog, because unfortunatly I am not an every-day-blogger.
Happy New Year π
Hi Pip Sweetie! I have always believed, that if everyone did just one good thing a day for someone else, what a different world it would be! Beautiful, Enriching, and Marvelous idea Pip! You can count me in for sure! Love, Penni xxx P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Lovely idea Pip, I had already decided to take 366 photos of things that make me happy, so now I can be a goody too, can't wait to see what everyone is doing.
Gorgeous idea! Love this project – I'm in π
Oh i love this along with photo a day challenges..it makes you aware of whats going on around you. Smell the roses.
My mind is going crazy with good thing ideas AND how to document them! Yay!
I am SOOO in!!!
Just blogged about it as well
What a lovely idea. I'm in.
Wonderful idea Pip! You're the greatest! π
Yes! Yes! I try to do good every day, but this will make me try harder to do more good! I'll see if my kids want to join in as well!
Re the little good deed mouse someone mentioned. I hadn't heard of this despite being a brownie! So I went off to investigate. I haven't found a picture yet (didn't look for long and will keep looking later) but I did find this sweet little poem.
"This saucy creature is a mouse
Most mothers won't let one in the house
See, this one it has quite a tail,
Each Brownie made one without fail.
Take it home and help all week,
and for good turns you must seek
for every good turn that you do
tie a knot in the yarn…make quite a few.
Remember why each knot you tied
and how much to help your really tried
and then next week, please take your turn
to tell us all, so we can learn…
just what you did to help at home
a ready helper you have grown!"
Apparently you make a little mouse with a long tail, in order that you can tie a knot in it each day. Sounds a cute idea.
Your idea might make us all behave a bit more mindfully and choose to do the nicer thing more often. I'm going to give it a try!
I like the sound of this Pip, I think I will Give It A Go. Probably try and post an update once a week or so.
Good on you for thinking up this good idea!! All the best for the New Year, Julie:)
Awesome idea just imagine a world where we all took the time to do this & record such lovely actions for ourselves & others, thanks for the friendly reminder, can't wait to get started!
Good stuff is excellent. I am all in for more good stuff in the world!
I am so on board with this pip! There can never be enough good stuff going on, more kindness yeah!!!
Oh, I feel like I need to set you all up with a Brownie Good Deed mouse, or maybe a Good Deed kite, or maybe you can tie a knot in a hanky for each day's good deed and photograph it each week to show us all the number of deeds done. That's what you used to have to show to Brown Owl. I'll try and find a Good Deed mouse picture and scan it. Too sweet.
oh go Pip, I love this idea!! my tricky thing to remember is always to be mindful about stuff – be in the moment, and do the good thing. Can't wait to see how this progresses during the year, hope it catches on big time. cat
What a lervly idea! :):) I'm currently spending six weeks traveling bits of the world, and when we were in NY we visited the Brooklyn Museum. As we were leaving the museum I noticed there was an installation piece that involved taking a flower from the work that you then had to give to a random person. So I took it for a metro ride to another Brooklyn stop and as I was getting off the train I gave it to a older guy who was sitting opposite us, who looked really sad and tired and had a really kind face and had spent the ride sniffing something from a bottle… Anyho, he beamed when I gave the flower to him and said "god bless", and when the train went past he was waving to us madly with a big smile on his face – I think the artist would be pleased π
This sounds like another winning idea Pip:)))))
May 2012 lead you and others to full blown happiness!!!
Best wishes
Issyx
