If anyone were to be crowned the Queen of Make Do & Mend, it would be Marjorie Bligh! A crafter, cook, writer and all round domestic goddess, she’s sort of like Mrs Beeton and Nigella Lawson rolled into one super creative, productive package.
Danielle Wood has written this rad book. It’s called Housewife Superstar : The Very Best of Marjorie Bligh. It details the life and times of this Tasmanian (and National, as far as I am concerned) Treasure, and is packed with tips, tales, tricks and recipes for smart people about town (like US!)
I’ve got two copies to give away, courtesy of Text Publishing. To be in the draw, just leave a comment between now and Friday noon! Winner will be drawn at random, for this giveaway!
Thank you, Text! Thank you, Danielle! Thank you, Marjorie! (Buy this from Readings)
xx Pip

It looks fantastic! Will definitely be on my Christmas wishlist!
Such a treasure! I remember whe she used to have her tips in the local paper!
What a fantastic giveaway! This book is definitely on my wishlist regardless – thanks for the opportunity ๐
I would love to be the next housewife superstar!!!! Marjorie has had an amazing life and acheived so much. What a woman!!!
She actually reminds me of my aunt who lived at Campbell Town. A true inspiration.
I would be so honoured to own this book.
Well done Danielle on writing this book
Awesome giveaway! My late Nan gifted me her Marjorie Bligh book that she had signed! Im unsure whether she gave it to me because I clearly needed help in those areas, or whether she was wanting to pass down a well kept secret that is Majorie Bligh? Either way I was so happy to have her copy ๐
Thanks for the giveaway. Looks like a handy book.
It's funny. I've never heard of Marjorie. Where have I been? Oh, that's right. Busy with my kids! LOL
Anne xx
I need all the help I can get! I'm a pretty crappola housewife!
Oh I was looking at her book yesterday and thinking I might as the children to get it for me for Christmas!

Looks fabulous! I love the cover art too ๐ Would so love to have my very own copy of this :))
Yay!! i do love a giveaway and a book or two too!! yay! xx Kel
That looks like a fascinating book, and yes I would love to win this.
I must confess I have NEVER heard of Marjorie. This apparent crime against nationhood MUST be rectified!! 1. My granma was from Tassie too, so clearly I have let down my Apple Isle ancestors. 2. I have just moved out of home and need all the Majorie advice and wisdom I can soak up (first question being – is there a way to take the fluorescent yellow turmeric stain out of my roommate's plastic spoon I used? Thinking not, darn tikka masala paste…) And 3. I want my kitchen to look JUST like the one on the cover. oohhh, and 3.5. I love Majorie's shoes on the front cover – Nanna-chic at it's best!!
I know this is a random draw but surely my super-persuasive 3-and-a-half Point Argument could twist a few arms? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink…
What a beautiful woman. That is what a lifetime of using your talents and sharing your love will do. Fantastic that her life is being celebrated – our wonderful mums and nanas and aunties are the often unsung heroes who put the icing on the cake of life. CHEERS to all the domestic goddesses in our lives. And special cheers to Marjorie. xxx Gayle
Majorie is quite a legend in Tasmania, and so it's nice to see that she's going global now. It's great to read about all sorts of inspirational people and I love the gladiola hat-tip to her friend Dame Edna on the front cover.
I heard the interview on the radio about this. I would love it!
ooh what a fab giveaway! My addled brain would love this book!
Oh my. How did I not know about this wonderful woman before now?? I would LOVE to own this book. I'm a Domestic Goddess wannabe – slowly trying to emulate the things I know my Nanna would have taught me had she lived longer.
PS. I grew up with a hutch and electric kettle exactly like that in my Mama's kitchen!! She's a vintage lover too ๐
How lovely to be able to read something like this.
What a delightfully gorgeous book! x

I'm a housewife superstar!!! If I don't shout it out, no-one else will. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.
Hopefully Marjorie doesn't get any hankies for Chrissy!!! Thanks Pip ๐
Domestic Goddess I am not …. I cleaned my oven with a vacuum cleaner on the weekend! In my defence, it was so I could concentrate on wrapping Christmas goodies in brown wrap and red polkadots tied in string of course. I think this book could be of use in my superstar status ๐
Majorie sounds like a wonderful wealth of wisdom. It'll be so much fun and educational reading this book!
Looks like a delightful book to add to the collection – I'm always called a nanna so maybe I can learn some tricks – fingers crossed
Awesome cover!!! I need this book, I think!!!
I'm curious. This book sounds interesting.
I'm all for resurrecting the domestic goddess… super housewife in each of us ๐
Oh, she's an absolute legend! Yes, please ๐

I have two of Danielle Woods books (maybe she only has two?) and they're ace, especially the first one. It's so cool that she's written about the lovely TASMANIAN Marjorie – the original and the best.
A Tasmanian Icon. I couldn't call myself a true Tasmanian if I didn't have this book.
I love the cover, brings a smile to my face….
awesome give away!
Yes please, pretty please?
I *ashamedly* haven't heard of Marjorie, but she sounds alot like my own Grandma!
What a wonderful book!
Love Marjorie! She lives down the road from where I grew up in Devonport! Definately a national treasure!
Hello Pip!
A few things: thanks for introducing me to a national treasure, how excting! I would love to find out more about her and the book looks like it will contain lots of good, old-fashioned, thoughtful tips and hints. How divine! Also, just wanted to send you a big thank you for the free love heart crochet pattern I found on your website, which I have been LOVING: I can send you some pics if you like, though they are not as good as yours … but I did manage to combine two yarns to create some larger hearts for the tree! Thanks for being so awesome with your ideas, creativity, time and blogs; and I love (and happily own) your books too! Go Pip! x
Marjorie is a genius! And lives not far from where we were in Tassie! I have been following her for years in Grass Roots magazine. I'd love to own this book filled with her amazing tips and ideas.
Hi, I have never even heard of Marjorie, but this looks like a fantastic book to sit down and read whilst having a cuppa!!!

I shall put my hand up for a prize, *wave wave wave* sounds like an interesting book. Women's history is often the hidden history, especially because in times past we were kept at home and considered unimportant.

xx
Bless you Marjorie and Pip and Text. Sounds fab.
beetroot cheeks!
Oooh this sounds like a fabulous book!
See I knew Tasmanian's were truly awesome!!
I knew Tasmanian's were truly awesome!!!
Marjorie! What a pleasure to see – today's peoples young and old need more Marjories or at the very least her ideas!
My grandparents & great grandparents treasured things, nothing was taken for granted things were mended or fixed not replaced – somewhere along the way thinking has slipped up and along with that traditions have been lost & treasures thrown out. hip hip horray for Marjorie ๐
I am fortunate to have met Marjorie several times during my childhood (I am from TAS originally) and she really does rock! You can never look at a bread packet the same after meeting her. x
What a treasure indeed! I love the front cover, it's fantastic. I'd love to win. Thank you ๐
I'd love a copy. I need some tips on being a housewife superstar
Of course, I am in, domestic superstars rock and keep a family on an even keel

Hey Pip,
all you need is some "home remedies" and a few husbands and they will be writing a book like this about you in your twilight years. She sounds wild, just like my grandmother, who taught me all those wonderful things too.
I can't wait to read this book!
How cute is the bowling hat in that photo!
Such a wonderful book to have up for grabs.
Oh the things I will learn. I have just moved out of home!

I'm with Marjorie, think about what you buy someone for Christmas, ask someone what they might like as a present.
I wonder if an Oz Housewife Superstar is the same as a Kiwi Housewife Superstar?
That is such an awesome book. My mum has a Marjorie book & it actually says in the book that you are welcome to knock on her door & she is happy to sign her books. How Cool Is She!!!!
