I am home! I did not have much time to trip about in Tasmania. But I did have lots of family time, a quick drive to the beach, a walk about the waterfront and a few more good things…
I read Marieke Hardy’s book (halfway through… up to Dan Kelly!) as a way of keeping in touch with my Melbourne side. And I bought my sister The Slap so that she could get in touch with her slappy Melbourne side too. Even though she is a Sydney gal. I dropped in to Ellison Hawker and signed a few books and had a chat with Richard. I got told off at the Museum for taking photos even though I asked first and was told I could. Then I got apologised to by the teller offer. I was not allowed to enter The Reading Room… but I wanted to and the lady who was piling books onto a trolley seemed SUPER CUTE! I saw Nicole Jenkins but did not recognise her new hair! She is the owner of Circa, don’t you know?! I walked RIGHT PAST HER. We were both in Hobart and our Melbourne shops are about 100m apart! We did not know each other with our fancy hairs! I went to Fullers and bought some note books and had a Chai. I wandered past The Maker and popped in to Love and Clutter (ace!). I visited The Cat and Fiddle Arcade where I was once photographed as a 5 year old in a Nanna knitted outfit (see below!) I wandered around Battery Point with Ari mildly late into the night and we saw a rabbit. I cooked nice food for my sister and her husband. I played with my cutesicle nephew. I drank lots of tea and drank a bit of wine. I went to The Hobart Bookstore (ace!) and to the Machine Laundry Cafe (ace!) and to Jackman and McRoss (ace breakfast claypot!) I got conjunctivitis (not ace!) and wished I could meet The Gourmet Farmer (ace!)
I took Ari to the State Library, where I used to hang about alone as a child, wandering from my Nan’s place in Battery Point through Salamanca and into town. Ari said I am a bit like Roald Dahl’s Matilda. Well. That I was like her as a child. Aw.
I did not get to take a cruise, go to MONA, go to Tinderbox or re-visit a whole lot of places I would like to. But that is just because the whole trip was about my NANNA! And I wanted to be sure to hang with her as much as possible. I will go back again soon. I do visit semi-regularly, and I reckon that I might do a bit of a tour for you guys, in case you want to visit the secret spots we like down there, too!!
What have you been doing?
xx Pip

Hello Pip
Thanks for the great mentions on your blog and so glad that you had time to pop in to the maker and love and clutter for a wee look.
Think I saw you as I was dashing into to work at the maker. Do pop in to say hi next time. Would be great to meet you in the real world as well as twitterland.
great photo of you in the Nanna Knitteds!!
you were so CUTE! (of course you still are…) Yes Yes YES Jackman and McRoss are the bomb! yummers… I went there for brekky every morning I was in Hobart…
Oh the photos of your nanna and the family celebrations are very precious
Don't give away all our Hobart secrets though 🙂
Your Nanna looks so lovely! I really should call my Grandma!
I have a collection of postcards from when I was a kid and one of my favourites is of the cat and fiddle arcade! I used to love looking at my postcard collection!
#1 The photo of your nephew and Nanny where he's crying is precious personified.
#2 That you saw an urban rabbit in the late hours is glorious
#3 You definitely have inherited your Nanna's love of crafty creativity judging by your natty knitted outfit
#4 Thank you for always bringing a smile to my face Pip
Waving from a glorious spring night in Noosa.
Yay Hobart secrets! We're going there in January, and I was just thinking I would google 'cute Hobart blog' and see what I got. A Mike's Tasmanian Tour sounds like a great idea!
I think I am am actually in love with your family and your nanna was the best knitter ever – that outfit is to die for.
Love Tasmania, going there myself in a couple of weeks to visit the in-laws.
What gorgeous photos! And it sounds like it was a lovely trip too!
oh I miss my nan… how I wish she'd met my children…
Go back and visit her soon!
Oh Pip! The Cat and Fiddle Arcade pic brings back fond Hobart memories! It was always my mum's go to spot to keep us entertained on our trips down there.
I know that cat and fiddle- its unmistakable!
Was just back down in Hobart myself, and like you it was all for the grandparents. I even didn't get to Salamanca this time. MONA is definitely on my for next time list.
Would love to hear about some of your favourite spots.
Pip, I can't believe we were so close and didn't see each other! How funny: the gallery was deserted – it must have just been you and I with our fancy hairs!
I love the idea of meeting up with you in Hobart but we were both ladies on missions and I'm glad you had a great family time – I had a great time at MONA (blog post to follow) and I'd love to have afternoon tea with you some time if one of us can walk that 100 metres!
Oh Pip, your nephew is THE CUTENESS, he has just the same "I'm upset but I'm getting a cuddle so I'll be brave" look that Suspence gets… *swoon*
And the picture of you at 5… my goodness… photoshop a fringed bob on that pic Ms & it will be you right now! You've not changed a bit!
