Mike’s Week of Favourite Things

Mugs:

My favourite mug. At the moment, at least! It says, as you can see, ‘NOVEMBER’ on it. It’s made by Hornsea of England, and charmingly features a cute girl pushing a moustached man in a barrow. I’m not sure what that all means, actually.

Hornsea made a mug for each month back in the 70s – I’m sure few survive now, but the ones I’ve seen are just as lovely as mine. They are a nice, thick chocolate brown, earthenware – and milky, vanilla-white inside. I like to drink really strong coffee from my November mug. And not just in November, either. I like to do this early in the morning of any month at all while I listen to LastFm and read all the nice blogs I subscribe to.

    I have a little bowl that I put rings into by my kitchen sink. It is the color of the pools of water at Yellowstone Park. I will post it on my blog. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Story behind your mug …
    The man in the wheel barrow is Guy Fawkes, who is celebrated every Nov 5th in England. He tried to blow up the tower of London, so now we have fireworks to celebrate. Children make a ‘Guy’ and collect ‘Pennies for the Guy’ and then Guy is burned on top of a bonfire… Something along those lines anyway!
