:: Desert Island Discs Part One…

July 23, 2011

I have been doing lots of commuting on public transport and walking over the last week, because our car is still at the panel beaters (after someone smashed it up running a red light.)  I feel kinda weird unless I have something to listen to, and I find that music is a bit disconnecting when I am walking, so I’ve been downloading a ton of podcasts and listening as I walk or tram it.

One of my very favourites is the BBC Podcast, Desert Island Discs.  I have only listened to the Debbie Harry one and the Cath Kidston one, but they were great (although annoying that the tracks get cut short due to licensing issues!)  Desert Island Discs features a long interview dotted with the interviewees very favourite tracks.  Here is the archive of all the Castaways, so you can take a peek!

Cath Kidston is a bit more rock n roll and down to earth than you might think..!  She’s really NOT all flowery and rosy!  She’s super ace, actually!!

xx Pip

I never listened to that podcast, I might try it out. I like to listen to them in my office at work. it helps speed the day along (sometimes!). I like the some craft podcasts, like Craftypod and Craft Sanity. I also like WTF with Marc Maron. I am not into comedians, I just think their stories about their lives are interesting and sometimes funny.

Sorry to hear about your car – that's poo. However, there is something to be said about all the exercise you're getting from walking and pt. I know what you mean about feeling disconnected when listening to music while walking. Although, I have a little ipod, I sometimes don't listen to it while I'm out.

Wishing you a better week! Reese
p.s. Just to let you know, I opened my shop on etsy recently – http://rambleswithreese.etsy.com

Thanks so much for sharing this Pip, I've subscribed to the podcasts and now have great listening to enjoy for a long time to come.
Last night I listened to Kim Catrall and had to giggle at her Liverpudlian accent at one point in the interview.

    Happy day!

    xx Felicity

Wow thanks for the link! I'm always looking for new stuff to listen to while I'm working! Just looking through the archive now whilst listening to Kathy Burke's interview (yay The Specials!). I'm still trying to get my head around David Mitchell choosing Walking on Sunshine!!

When I taught at a school in London last year, they had a unit on Desert Island Discs. I so wanted to teach that unit, but came home to Australia before I got the chance.

I've been public transporting it this last week too! I have started a new job but they haven't given my a pass for the car park yet! I have been listening to The Suburbs by Arcade Fire, it is most awesome. But my headphones are broken, so they are all crackly, I must buy new ones!

Thank you for this, I have learnt something new today- I will have a ganders.
So sorry to hear that your car was hit ( must have been a shock). You are clearly making the most of not having a car, we limit car use frequently, and it is quite liberating sometimes when you don't need it. 🙂
