Hello

Just Wanted To Say…

February 26, 2009

I have been VERY busy today… hence the lack of posting!
But I will be back tomorrow, I swear, with heaps of good stuff.
After I unfry my brain and do the breakfast dishes (note it is 5.30pm)
In the mean time, a bit of commenty dialogue?
Your Nanna? Crocheter, baker, knitter, sewer?
Your Mum?
And you?
Similar? Different? I wonder….!
Do tell!

xx Pip

ps –
MY nanna (on my Mum’s side) – knitter, crocheter, sewer and baker.
My Mum – knitter, sewer, crocheter, baker.
ME – sewer, crocheter, baker!

pps – not to show off, but I made 90 bangles and 6 wallets today, just so that you know there’s crafting going on in these here parts…!

Gran – reader, shortbread baker, cat lover, sewer of own clothes

Mum – gardener, jeweller, great cook, cat lover, very good seamstress

Moi – writer, painter, silkscreener, cat lover, not bad cookie, slap-dash sewer

I think there was a lot of creativity passed down paternally too

Mum: knitter, sewer, quilter, dyer (that is one who dyes fabric, how do ya write that?), baker of great foccacia, writer, all round fantastic fibre artist. I tell ya it just comes out of her pores
Mum and me: collaborated on fibre art creations
Me: stitcher, felter, beader, painter, sewer, weaver,
    Daughter 1st actor, baker, sewer

My granma could do anything with her hand tied behind her back – bake, knit, crochet, sew, embroider etc.

My mum CAN do all those things but she doesn’t do any of them. She hates cooking and does not enjoy sewing or knitting, though has done both for short periods at a couple of times in her life.

As a result I’m a self-taught baker with an obsession for fabrics and wool and other people’s craftworks but no skills of my own. Like someone from generations of farmers but no land of her own, looking longingly over the fence at a lush paddock!

    Hi,
Grandma: Baker, sewer and left-handed knitter! (She had to find a left handed person to teach her, hence why she can’t crochet)
    Mother: Baker and Sewer.
Me: Baker, sewer, knitter and very bad crocheter.
