Hello

Goodbye…

December 30, 2008

2008! Hah!

I’m on a break from Mike’s at the moment – really super-enjoying recharging some pretty depleted batteries and remembering how to stop for a while. It’s not easy for me to stop, I can tell you, I’m a bit of a twitchy, wriggly, do-ey type of gal. But I’ve been trying. I’ve been op-shopping and eating and drinking and talking under the blankets and watching episode after episode of MAD MEN and trying to settle down a bit. In my own twitchy way.

I really DID want to pop in and say ‘Goodbye’ to the year that was. I’m not one for resolutions, I must admit. I prefer to look back at all the good stuff that has happened – and make one big rule for the coming year.

Improve

I figure that that’s what it’s all about for me – improving my life in various ways – and I think that things change over the year and I need a bit of room for movement – so one big fudgy positive word allows plenty of flexibility. Sometimes I think those big lists of must-dos made under pressure on New Year’s Eve can make you feel like a bit of doofus if you don’t achieve them. And I’m not into the doofus thing. I’m more into the adorable, clever and nice kind of thing. Or I try to be. Probably it doesn’t work out all the time… but hey, I try.

Maybe it would also be nice for you to take the ‘resolution’ list making time – and instead make a list of all the good things about 2008. Looking forward is great, but don’t forget to check out all the great stuff you achieved this year. Don’t be continually on the hop looking for more, but take some time to see how good you’ve already been! Do you know what I mean?!

Sometimes the most important human things like time, happiness, health, love and growth are what all those lists break down to anyway. And you can make BIG gains in tiny ways in those areas – and perhaps in ways only known to you. And sometimes tiny yet big things like that can’t quite be explained on a regular old list of resolutions. Because they are MUCH too important to be relegated to messy writing with a check box sidled up alongside it. Or maybe you have neat writing. But you get what I mean, right?

So go easy on yourself and have another chocolate biscuit, ditch the check-boxes and tickle someone… or something like that.

Wishing you a wonderful year full of goodness and improvement and fun times. You guys are great and I like you lots.

xx Pip
