Important News!

Hey. I know everyone is always asking you for stuff. I know you might have a bit of charity fatigue. I know you are busy. But I want to tell you a couple of things.

Okay. You have until 5th December to donate a handmade softie – or a store-bought kid-friendly gift – to our Mirabel Christmas Toy Appeal. Why would you do that? Credit crunch. Money’s tight. etc. I’ll tell you why.

Just last week, I saw a nice Mum playing with her kids in the park. I also saw that nice Mum make her connection and pick up whatever illicit substance she’s addicted to in the park. And drive off home with her two little kids. She was kind and patient with her kids. She pushed them on the swings. She looked nice.

The same week I saw a Mum and Dad counting out their money – with their two toddlers strapped into the back seat of their car – and Dad take off to pick up whatever it was… while Mum drove the kids around in the car. They had HUNDREDS of dollars with them. Their car was crappy and blowing smoke. Their kids were sweet and giggling and playing together in their car-seats.

Possibly you don’t want to know that. But I do. And I want to do something. I don’t really know what to do, actually. I don’t want to call the police, but I kind of DO want to. It’s a bit of a dilemma, actually.

So what I have decided to do is support Mirabel. Mirabel supports kids who are orphaned due to illicit substance abuse. Substance abusers are addicts who don’t have the ability to help themselves, let alone their kids. Everyone loses in a family like that. And we can help.

The Mirabel Foundation has three kids referred to them each week due to these sort of Mums and Dads. That can mean three kids who might have actually had to experience something scary involving their parent’s death. I know you don’t want to know that. But if little kids have to know it – then you can handle it too. I know you can.

It goes without saying that it’s a waste of potentially great Mums and Dads. And it’s really hard on the kids. On the cusp of the season of crazy consumerism – please think of kids like this. They are just like YOUR kids – except they drew a bit of a tricky straw in the Parent Department. Lovely parents – just with SUPER BIG issues.

I hope you consider helping! You can send your kid’s gift donation to Mike’s. And we’ll deliver it to Mirabel to be sent out to great kids who would love a kindly sent Christmas Gift. Or you can drop it in to our shop and have a chat. Make a difference. It’s super important to other people’s kids. And they are super important people.
