Hello

Do you like Margaret, like me?

November 12, 2008

Margaret Fulton is a fave at our house. In fact, she’s up there with Beverly Sutherland-Smith, Stephanie Alexander and Maggie Beer as one of our super-faves. She’s just put out a new cookbook – Margaret Fulton Christmas – and I’ve been super-poking the publisher to send me one, which sounds kinda annoying, huh? Anyway, because I’m cheeky, they did!

So, Ari and I curled up last night under a blankie to work out our Christmas Day menu together. He loves looking at cookbooks. He likes the dessert pictures the best – which shows good taste, I think! This book has lovely Christmassy images all through it, which made us excited that it’s nearly time to stuff ourselves silly and sing ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ all over again. (And it made me excited that we’ll be closing Mike’s for two weeks rest over those lovely festive days, which sounds like family times and fun to me!)

Here’s what he chose – I think we might have to pare it down a little… and I think his bent towards the alcoholic dishes is… ummm.. interesting.

Mike’s Family Christmas Day Menu via Margaret Fulton Christmas…. chosen by Ari
(who is eight)

=============

Oysters with Coriander Dressing
Just so that the boys can sip the salty liquor from them – and then we can dress them and Cam can eat the actual oyster.

Smoked Salmon Pancake Rolls
A little pancake surprise of salmon and chivey, cressy creme fraiche

Watermelon with Gin
Lovely retro melon balls fortified with gin and freshened with mint

Roast Duck
The kind with super crispy salty skin – which you are s’posed to gobble greedily at Christmas time.

Quail With Grapes
Delicious, fruity, quaily, grapey food of the gods with it’s legs tied together.

Barbequed King Prawns
Butterflied and smothered with a herby, spicy, Margaret kind of olive oil

Scalloped Potatoes
Which he was relieved did not contain scallops

Christmas Trifle
Layered mango and berries and custard and other delicious things

Caramelised Pears
With lovely syrup and lashings of vanilla bean ice-cream.

Croquembouche
Puffs of delicious pastry cream super-crunchily trapped in lashings of toffee

Yule Log
Because a log made out of cake is the best kind of log he’d ever seen

Mango Daquiri
Without the alcohol, he decided (of course) – but with heaps and heaps of icy, slushee mango.

Thank You Ari.
Sounds rather lavish and delicious to me!
Do you like Margaret, too?
What will you all be having on Christmas Day, I wonder, lovely readers?
