We bumped our way through the crowd to grab drinks and hellos and a very swift peek at Kat’s things. I’ll definitely be going back to take a quieter look, I think. In terms of space, however, I think Lamington Drive is great – people spilling out into the lane meant things were not as squeezy as they might have been, considering the large turnout. It was a lovely laneway night too – mild and twilighty. The sort of night that made you feel LUCKY to live in Melbourne.
There were lots of pretty people there, although none as pretty as lovely Kat. (Victoria Mason did run a rather close second, however.) There was Lamington ice-cream from Trampoline. Max the coconut-hater did not go in for it. Nor would the other coconut hater, Ellie, although she was not there – lucky for her, huh? She would have gagged. Personally, I love lamingtons. And coconut. But it’s nice that we’re all different, right? You can find a nice lamington recipe here. Or wait for MY pink lamington recipe. It’s in the book. Coconut haters turn away.
Now back to Kat. I love Kat. She’s a really talented and sweet and unpretentious person. Your Nanna would LOVE her. In a healthy, wholesome kind of way. She has a nice haircut too. And her dress had little hearts on it, which I thought was super cute.
If you are the least bit crafty, you will love this show. The adorable Ms Macleod has stitched her work with more love then a handmade christening gown. The drawings and prints are sweetly layered with fabric and thread and paint and pencil. I really super-loved the embroidered pieces (and Vic did too). There’s something ultra-good about embroidery on paper, don’t you think?
There’s a little film showing – which was hard to see amongst the jostle of pretty people looking at lovely work – and there’s also a drool-worthy cabinet full of crafty inspiration – vintage buttons and books about birds and fabric and other nice things. I think I want one of those in my house. It might JUST squeeze in between the Golden Books and the Lamington tin.
