Well – if you’ve been making ginger beer – you may or may not have bottled yours yet. Last week I bottled mine – and sampled some lovely FLAT ginger beer. Completely delicious, though not as good as my Nanna’s, but nonetheless flat. I was definitely after a bit of fizz.
Following the original (doubled!) recipe, I left it for a week, as recommended. Paula said it would definitely fizz. Kirst said she could see one or two bubbles in the bottle I gave her for her birthday. And after Linda asked her ‘to fizz or not to fizz’ question last night, I opened a bottle this morning.
And just as PAULA said… it opened with a ‘pphhhhhtttt’. It was fizzy! I’m not talking super fizzy. But a lovely light refreshing fizz! A sweet kiss of a fizz. An invigorating, gentle fizz. Oh the wonders of yeast. Although some yeast is bad, right ladies?
So the verdict is that the ginger beer recipe is truly excellent! I have another batch in the works now – so it’ll be lashings of ginger beer this Summer! Fortified with a bit of vodka and lime, for the grown ups.
My next batch is going to have a vanilla bean thrown in for good luck.
Vanilla ginger beer. Yep.
xx Mikes
