I pulled out a little suitcase full of old matchbooks and business cards whilst sipping my tea this morning. They made mention of long gone restaurants and antique dealers and employment agencies. I love the old type, the old phone numbers, the old optimism. It makes me want to start collecting all sorts of paper paraphernalia – in some sort of seventies-esque attempt to mark out my history in papery things. I don’t think it would have the same charm as this little suitcase collection, though. Everything is so slick now – very design focused and perfect. I like the wonky spacing and the asterisks and the self-importance of old papery stuff.
(Of course the one above is from Ford. Hardly long gone. (Yet.) It’s really amazing that someone decided to leave those 3 matches in tact, I reckon.)
Anyhoo. I’ve sewn 4 new baby throws for the shop PLUS some little softie Scottie Dogs PLUS some cute appliqued singlets for newborns… and I’ve been for my walk too. And I’ve been eating chicken and avocado sandwiches with chilli on them. And I’ve been catching up on my emails. PLUS I’ve sorted out Max and Ari’s huge spat this morning. Drunk two cups of coffee. Ate a tub of yoghurt. Made some drawstring carrybags for lucky customers. And taken a bawth. ALSO I’ve emptied my Google Reader, polished off a glass of cold white wine and taken some photos too! Notice this is not a LIST as such. It’s sort of a ramble. In case you’re frightened by my lists. I don’t want to startle you on such a lovely Saturday.
I’ve been reading some new blogs too – I’ll be adding them to my side-bar this week. And we have an exciting new ‘WEEK OF…’ starting on Monday. More about that later too!
xx Mikes

Love these, what a collection – wild lady, wild!
Don’t you know…. I can’t sit still. I look at my bed with longing on an exhausted afternoon, but I can’t bring myself to nap. I sit on the couch only after seven pm – can’t manage it otherwise. I just HAVE to ALWAYS be DOING something!! It is no good and i must stop. I promise to try harder. To do less. Awgawd! See what I mean?!
Oh my! So much industriousness! Wish I had some of that creative energy right now, go you!
PS. Love the Ford matches, that brought back a long gone memory for me.
Please show us some boasting photos of your latest sewing efforts. That sounds like a great effort for one day!
My old matchbox collection is (mostly) on flickr now – inherited from a lady who worked as an air hostess in the 60s & 70s so they've been picked up from all over the world too 🙂 I love them!
When we bought our current house it came with a large basket of old matchbooks and matchboxes which look like they were collected from all over the world. The previous owners were here for 40 years so I suspect there is some history in the basket. Just fabulous.
Do you think you could transfer some of that ‘get it done mojo’ over this way…I seem to be stuck in procrastination land at the moment.
Fillet steak for $1.60…who would have thunk?
Oh, how I love old paper products. Those matches at the top are great. I can only imagine what an excellent collection you have.
