Hello

:: Bright Signs :: Quick Sticks!

October 26, 2011

You’d better lickety split if you are in Melbourne and want to catch the super-pop, gorgeous, bright, hopeful, sharp, happy, poignant, adorable, cheeky, rad exhibition that is Bright Signs by Gemma Jones.  La Jones is a very dear friend of mine and I have watched from the side-lines with much admiration as she has nurtured these paintings into existence.

Opening night was really great and involved a room full of people playing word association games with Gemma’s works.

‘Which one do you love the most?’
‘I’m Hanky Panky!’
‘Well, I’m Milk and Sugar!’
‘I’m Second Best!’
‘I thought you’d be Girl Afraid!’

So great.  We all beamed happily and wondered what our favourites revealed about us, and what our pennant would say if we we painted our own.  Possibly mine would say ‘Nice Times!’.  What would yours say?!

There were lots of supportive, smart people hanging about, kids, icy beer and Gocco prints too.  It’s a show filled with Gemma’s trademark sincerity, care and cheekiness.  I think you should go visit before it’s too late.

Bright Signs is on at No Vacancy Gallery until October 30th.

Don’t forget to tell me what your Pennant would say!!! Comment below!

'wishin hopin' seems about right to me…I'm thinking 'chocolate love' could do ok too.

These are fantastic!!! Will Gemma be printing them or making them available to those of us who live far far far away from Melbounre? We always say love attack in our house.
