Things We Did and Things We Are Doing

September 25, 2008

On the holidays we have been doing lots of things – balancing shop life and home life pretty well, actually, which is amazing.

We went to The Show, as you might already know. Ari studied the form guide for a week writing long lists of desirable show bags – grouped into price brackets. On show eve they drew up a list and on show day we headed straight to the deserted pavillion and ticked things off the list. Superbly planned. Then we hired a $2 locker and stowed them all away while we checked out the animals and rides and things.

We welcomed Neville the Deer Fox into the family.

We visited the Museum, marvelling at the new exhibit about illicit drugs and the pretty little pots for Heroin… weird and very cool. Max was amazed at all the different names given to the various substances…. go-eee, ice, whizz… Wow Mum! I guess it does sound like some sort of carnival ride (which of course it is not). We met Miss C Steel there – she was cleaning out the tiger snake enclosure. She’s so tough.

The boys have been building cubbies at the local adventure playground. Max hammered his thumb. Ari got into an arguement with a boy who was saying EXTREMELY rude things to a little girl, much to Ari’s disgust. (The boys also saw some policemen tip a bucket of water over a rather drunk man outside the local police station -very comical, from all accounts.)

We have started the Carnival of CWA Sandwiches – after purchasing ‘The Perfect Sandwich’ cookbook from the CWA stand at The Show. Curried egg and tuna are rating highly. A loaf of bread for lunch EVERY day, accompanied by green cordial.

As if that’s not enough, Cam’s lemon delicious pudding was partaken of in the fireside retreat last night. (Pikelets are on the agenda today. School holidays mean pikelets. No ifs, no buts.)

We are laying the Showbags out on the floor – Max’s on one blanket, Ari’s on another – still in their original grouping – laid atop their original bag. Packed up each night due to lack of space and the danger of lollies being crushed underfoot.

Plus, there is also a Festival of Nintendo 64 going on upstairs as we speak – Old Skool is So Cool at our house and the PS2 and Wei are gathering dust at the moment.

xx Mikes

I am working in the shop tomorrow – so if you are trying to avoid the Grand Final – come and visit me!
