Hello

the toof fairy

May 13, 2007

Ari’s first front tooth finally came out this morning… (the above image is from google btw – it was too cute to resist!)… but i wonder.. in our family we pop the lonely tooth in a glass of water and the tooth fairy leaves money in the glass… and of course takes the tooth.

In Charlie and Lola.. Lotta recommends putting the tooth in the very middle of under Lola’s pillow, when Lola’s tooth comes out…

I know lots of people must do this.. but surely the tooth would just get lost and be found later bumping about on the floor.. if you put it under the pillow?? I wonder how other people handle this… although I am happy with the ‘easy to find’ tooth in the glass of water… hmmm…

Ari does look very adorable now though!

in primary school i remember a teacher telling us a story the tooth fairy told him- when she went to a house where the tooth was in a glass of water she had to fly ALL THE WAY HOME to get her bathers so she could dive in and get it. from then i just wrote notes and put the tooth on the note.

We had a special pillow, too. It was rectangular – probably about A4 in size – with a tiny rounded pocket on the front, with frilly lace edging. I remember getting some teeth pulled that had very long roots, which I thought were particularly neato, so I left the Tooth Fairy a note to ask if I could keep the teeth and still have the money. Greedy, eh? The fairy obliged, and my mom still has that note from tiny me stashed in her underwear drawer!

I was brought up with the glass and water method but recently my 5yr old got her first wobbly tooth and was totally terrified. So I bought her a book about the Tooth Fairy that had a little purple bag to put it in under the pillow. The fairy found it fine. The fairies leave lots of little notes at our house and fairy dust!

We’ve recently faced the same dilemma and went for the standard tooth in the glass beside the bed thing. Conor also insisted that we leave the fairy a cup of tea because it would have to be thirsty work collecting teeth and he didn’t want the fairy drinking the water that his tooth had been in!

I made my girls a pillow in the shape of a tooth, with a little pocket on the back. We wrap the tooth in a tissue and put the pillow in an easy to get to place(like right near the door!) It works well, except when the tooth fairy goes to bed and forgets all about it!!

When i was little my sister once climbed to the top of the cupboard to drink the fairy water – tooth and all !!
At out house the Tooth fairy always leaves a little note to say thanks….and I mean little !
