Hello ! I’m a BIG beci orpin fan and I’m so excited about her new book ! I am also an avid crafter – I devote all my spare time to crafting and all my pocket money to craft supplies (um… well lots of washi tape anyway !). I love to create new things and experiments with different materials. At the moment I am hand sewing a watermelon cushion !!! I have lots of new DIYs planned in my head. When I am crafting, I like to craft on my own with some good music playing. Its my “me” time ! I also love to do craft with my crafty and wonderful best friend but she lives quite far away so I don’t get to see her often. I would absolutely LOVE to win because Make and Do is on my Christmas list and it would be amazing to get it early ! Thanks for holding this awesome competition 😀 Ella xo.

I love to make jewellery, picking out a bunch of beautiful colourful beads and putting them together to make something quirky and delightful is so much fun. And I’ve been learning to quilt, with my very talented friend Andi. It’s something I would never manage to finish if I was left to my own devices!

I love making any craft that is achievable in a day.
I have a pile of un-finished craft projects eeepp that I probably should finish!
I have Beci’s first book and all of those projects are good one-day-ers! I love to craft with my best friend who is also named Emily or emi poo #2 as I call her. We spend most of the time talking and crafting ever so slowly- It is the best.

I like to do drawing, painting and cutting and sticking with my two year old niece because she is constantly in awe of whatever I draw or make on her every whim. She always tells me “well done” when I recreate her favourite characters and scenes from her life, and must think I am the greatest artist in the the world! She has absolutely no inhibitions in her choice of colours and composition, and just does what she feels. I can’t wait to introduce her to more crafts and art techniques, and to spend quality auntie/niece time with her this way for many years to come.

I like to make and do with fabric and pom-poms and ric-rac and buttons and rope. But mostly I like to make and do with love. And … My little orange moggie boy who’s always close by keeping watch.

I love making costumes and dress up items with my boy!

I like to make someone laugh by doing something utterly goofy. Or just being silly. That’s my no.1 make & do.

Alternatively I also like making milkshakes. And doing the drinking of them.

Oh this looks so brilliant and inspirational. Our favorite project: once a year we use all our art projects from throughout the year and we create a book for the Sketchbook Project… it is awesome fun, a lot of work and so worth it… Check out the Sketchbook Project, they are based in the USA and collect sketchbooks from artists (and really anyone is an artist) from around the world and take them on a trip for folk to read and enjoy… It is a lovely project – and collage heaven!!!

I love to craft with my gorgeous and crafty 8 year old. Recently we have crocheted spa cloths for Christmas (I do the body, she does the edging), we have used fabric markers on linen to draw a personalised picture and made 2 linen tea towels for an upcoming kitchen tea. We are almost finished making pom poms for a rug for her room and we are currently working on a twirly whirly skirt as a birthday gift for her friend. I love to craft, and I love it even better when I can share it with my girl.

I love to spin wool. I am currently knitting some of my home-spun into a jumper. I can’t wait to wear it back to show the black sheep that kindly provided the wool. I hope she approves.

  • Reply Jemma H October 29, 2014 at 11:39 AM

I love to make mischief with my crochet hook, right now it’s tongue-in-cheek Christmas tree decorations for friends and family, such as a koru for a New Zealander friend, a nail polish bottle for an immaculately manicured friend, and a football-team-colour Christmas bauble for a best mate’s wife, a whale shark for a ocean-loving friend. I’m no crochet expert but I love how freestyling it can give inanimate objects a character of their own!

I love to sew. I made a pledge to not buy any new clothes this year and so far I’ve succeeded. Now I can’t imagine wearing at least one item of me-made clothing everyday.
However, probably my favorite thing to do is when my five year old niece comes for a sleepover. We cook and bake and sew clothes for her. She’s the best helper ever!

  • Reply Frances October 29, 2014 at 8:15 AM

    Hi Pip,

What really love to do is sew! I’ve only been doing so for a couple of years, but growing up with a sewing mother meant that I picked up some skills via osmosis. It’s also been a great way of developing my wonderful friendship with my older sister — we often meet to go to Tessuti fabrics together, lend patterns to each other, and have little chats about what we are sewing. She’s living in Sweden at the moment, and of course I really miss her (and our fabric buying trips). I’m looking after her sewing machine while she’s away so I like to think that despite the distance, she’s still helping me do something I love!

    Frances.

I’m currently really enjoying cute little crochet armigurumi and hooked up a little ghost for my daughter today since it’s Halloween Friday. I most enjoy crafting with my friend Vikki when we have our fortnightly crafternoons, which have become trickier now I have a nearly 4 year old and 18month old, and it will become much more difficult when she leaves the UK in December to travel round Australia for a year, I will miss her soo much!!!!! Thanks for the opportunity to win such a gorgeous book =) Xx

I love to make popcorn with my nine-year old son, before we watch a movie together. He is always so delighted by the ‘miracle’ of small hard kernels turning fluffy white snack. It makes us both happy and has turned into quite the weekend ritual. It’s the simple things, aye?

I love Beci’s other books, so to win this would be a thrill. Thanks for the chance to enter! x Helen

I really really can’t answer that question / I like to create things, it’s a way to make me feel happy and a way to express myself. But I also like to variate in what I do. Day one I like to play with beads, the next day I’m in the mood for a new home made pillow cover, and at the end of the week I want to settle myself in the corner of the sofa with my sketchbook and some pencils… As long as I can create, I’m happy 🙂

Ohh I’ve been counting to days for this book to come out! I love that it’s an insight into Beci’s creative secret world! I’ve recently really gotten into molding and creating little creatures and earrings with oven bake clay, then painting and sticking everything colourful and glittery onto them. My younger sister and I have a ‘clay day’ and have a dream to start our own little business selling our little creations!

At the moment I am obsessed with creating Paper flowers-Poppies, Camelias, Peonies, and Tulips!
I love experimenting with different types/colours of crepe, and painting and dying the paper myself. My Mum thought they looked great so she gave it a try..now she’s hooked too! They make lovely gifts and decorations for around the home.

I love crotcheting and knitting, especially with my girlfriends in our weekly crafternoon sessions. We take it in turns going to eachothers house, cook up some yummy treats with lots of tea at hand, and have a swell old time. Our projects always inspire eachother, often to the point where we have multiple projects on the go!

I am a massive fan of Beci Orpin and everything she does! What a wonderful giveaway. My favourite thing to make is home textiles – screenprinted cushions and the like! At the moment I am creating paper prints to frame, which I am making with collage and textured paint and then I’ll scan them into the computer and work into them digitally. To be honest I like to work on my own accompanied by a chocolate bar and a radio. Having said that I’ve organised a crafty day with my art school friends at the end of November to make Christmas decorations and cards and watch Elf and drink mulled wine! Yay 🙂 x

an awesome group of friends & I run a free kids club on Friday afternoons. Each week I prepare a craft for us to complete together. I love to challenge their fine motor skills & introduce techniques from the 70’s. It is the best opportunity to get alongside the kids to hear how they are going. I am amazed that even though I show them an example they all interpret the craft to express their creative flair. People matter, so build people up & help people grow!

Right now my favourite thing in the world to make is gooey, chocolatey baked things with my kids. The joy they get from licking the spoon is infectious and undeniable. Love it. I would totally love to branch out though and get a bit more crafty. Right now we love doing stuff we see on Mister Maker, but I have been totally inspired by the papier mach taxidermy – how great! And wall sprinkles! Are you even kidding? Would love this book. x

I really love crocheting on my own…but that sounds selfish and lonesome…so I will say that I love creating things for and with my kiddies. They have some excellent, and sometime strange, requests for things, and it is fun for us all to try to make them a reality. Most of our favourites have involved boxes…because what is more fun…getting something in a box, or making something out of the box?!?!?

My most favourite thing to make is little dolly clothes for my daughter’s dolls. It’s a team effort, she picks the fabric and I do the sewing. It brings back so many happy memories of making clothes when I was little.

Crafting and making has always been a part of my life – I still remember asking Mum to keep all the toilet rolls, so I could make what they made on Playschool. Now making & designing children’s toys and accessories is my job, as I chip away at 1000’s of ideas in my little studio – far away from my Melbourne-home, in Hamburg, Germany. There’s no one I love sharing my passion for handmade with, than with my best-friend, no.1 supporter and Hubby. He’s always cheering me on!

I love making silly creatures out of fabric, felt and embroidery… They’re all utterly loveable and unique with their own quirky characters. I love it best when I’m sewing with my nephew, who just turned 8 yesterday! He saw me sewing a big forest bear and was mesmerized by sewing from there on in… He’s made some awesome creatures of his own now too. He reckons he’s a natural at it and would love to make it his job when he gets older 🙂

I LOVE to make…. lots of things! I love to crochet, sew (hand and machine), upcycling items, and just “prettifying” things as I go along! I love to do these things with my daughter by my side, helping me, or with my husband sitting next to me, and we chat and share cups of tea. Both are bliss!

  • Reply Sarah from Creating Contentment October 28, 2014 at 5:53 PM

I see crafting as me time, so i like making all by myself. I love slowly deliberating on colours or where to add something. I love making everything I cannot buy myself! I love making things of beauty that make me smile, both because of the beauty but also cause of my pride that I made that and the fun I had doing it.

At the moment, I’m creating a juju hat. We plucked four of our roosters and I’ve washed all of their beautiful white feathers, and now I am slowly hot glueing them in place. I cannot wait to see it up on my wall! It is something of such beauty, that I’ve lusted over for years. Cannot believe I’m making one all by myself! xS

  • Reply Rachel October 28, 2014 at 3:22 PM

Oh I love to make and do so many things! But I don’t stick with anything for too long, I dip in and out of projects constantly (so they take a while to finish but I usually get there!) I love to draw, sew, stitch, knit, patchwork, glue, stick, write, make Christmas decorations, make garden beds but MOST of all I love to make sugar free cakes. I bake every chance I get 🙂

  • Reply Isabel October 28, 2014 at 3:04 PM

My latest fave thing to make is cushions. I NEVER KNEW HOW TO USE A SEWING MACHINE UNTIL LAST WEEKEND, can you believe this? I was always frightened, but now that I know how, it’s not even that difficult! My modus operandi is to knit a big square out of cotton (this takes time) and then use op shop fabric to sew the whole thing up into an awesomely comfy cushion. As to who with, my Mum taught me how to use the machine on Saturday, but the time-consuming knitting part I honestly prefer to do on my own! Knitting back and forth while watching West Wing/Please Like Me/Cold Feet/listening to Serial is one of the greatest ways to relax that I can think of

I just picked up crocheting so it’s yarn madness in my craft room and dining table in my home at the moment. I’m loving crocheting earrings, necklaces and brooches now. And my crafting companion is my dog Missy who would simply sit (or lay her head sometimes) by my side while I’m crocheting away! I can’t ask for any better company!

I love to stitch, especially with the women in my family. Cross stitch, tapestry, sewing, embroidery, quilting -anything involving a needle and thread. When I was a little girl, my Grandma encouraged me by buying me little kits. For my 13th birthday I asked her for an enormous cross stitch kit pattern, which it took me five years or so to complete but I was determined!

When I was about 16 my Grandma was very ill with cancer. Her sister taught all the sisters, aunts, cousins, daughters and granddaughters how to make hand pieced quilt squares and about five years later, when she was in remission, we were able to present her with a beautiful king sized quilt that is now on her bed. My cross stitch hangs above it.

I’m 32 now, and I am so blessed to still have my Grandma alive today. I have two lovely little girls of my own who I hope develop a passion for crafting of their own. They love sew little toys on their Grandma’s lap while their Great Grandma looks on.

My favorite thing to make is crazy animal sculptures using found objects and acrylic paint. I love using scrap pieces of wood which I find from stairwell banisters and relics I find at op shops from different countries. Once I have glued the pieces all together and sanded them down, I then paint them in all different colours and patterns. My sculpture making sidekick is my lovely little cat who enjoys figuring out which part should go where. (This book looks so fab! Beci is such a wonderful creative soul!)

The possibilities are endless. They’re always in awe of ‘what’s it gonna look like??!!’ and it reminds me of being five again!
