Weekend Sponsored Project: Fancy Up An Old Ladder

We have a lot of ladders. We collect them from roadside rubbish piles, skips and op shops around the country side. They look very rustic and earthy, just as they are (see the before shots above), but I thought it might be cool to see what one would look like if I brightened it up. So that’s just what I did.

I particularly LOVED this coral colour hatched by Sincerely Sara D – so I mixed up my own batch and went to town in a very pinky way! (You can find other ‘recipes’ for different Annie Sloan custom corals and pinks if you Google about a bit.)

One of the good things about this product is that you can mix up your own custom colours really easily – just tip and whip, kinda thing.

Things to note:
+ No undercoat or sanding required. Phew!
+ This took two coats and no time at all. (It’s a two cup of tea job, basically.)
+ This coral shade is just right – not too neon and not too pastel – super like.
+ It all cleans up in water.
+ This paint does not smell. It’s odour-free and lead free too.

The recipe for this colour is:
One part Barcelona Orange
Just under one part Emperor’s Silk (which is red!)
Two parts and a dash more Pure White
(See all the Chalk Paint™ colours and find stockists here)

* I actually used a little bit less red and a little bit more white – so use this as a guide and mix to suit you!

Tip into a clean vessel (we used a Pyrex bowl – you could use an ice cream container!) Mix well and slap the ready-to-be-made-over thing with merry abandon.

I really love the way this turned out.

I immediately draped some crocheted blankets over it and photographed the heck out of them! You could also stack a ladder like this up with little indoor plants or succulents. That would look smashing, I think.

Are you into pink?!

Thanks for reading. I really appreciate it!

Your ladder looks amazing now. I have one in the garage and am going to make it my next weekend project. There is an Annie Sloan stockist not far from where I live, so will go down there tomorrow.
Thank you for the inspiring post!

Pip it’s gorgeous! I love Annie Sloan paint, it’s so easy to use, and I love that you took the plunge and painted over old wood! Quite often I’m a bit scared to to that, and I should just take the plunge.
    xx
