We Moved To Tasmania!

Surprise! Sort of! We moved to Tasmania a few days ago after months and months of planning and sorting and throwing things away and packing things up. We drove onto the boat in Port Melbourne and drove off in Devonport 12 or so hours later, ready for a different kind of life.

I was born here but moved away when I was nine, visiting semi-regularly in between then and now.

Here I am, back again for – hopefully – the rest of my days and I could not be happier about the decision.

Ari and Max have moved here with me too and we’re all pretty pleased with ourselves when we wake up to each new day in this lovely green place. We live in the Derwent Valley where my brother is renting us a house and the river is a hop, skip and a jump from our new place.

Mum, my brother, Rin and the boys all pitched in to make the move happen in lots of different ways, and everyone is so thrilled we made it happen pretty seamlessly.

The locals have been so kind to us and we are somehow making friends everywhere we go! It’s such a relief after so much hard work to get here that it feels so right for us all.

Here are some photos of our first few days here (we arrived on Friday morning and accidentally drove in the ‘wrong way’ through the central highlands … scary and fun and incredibly spectacular!)

I can’t wait to show you so many ace Tassie things!!!

x pip

PS: normal blogging/communicating/1000 ways will resume ultra-soon.

  1. Your move to the dream spot that is Tasmania has finally pushed me into commenting! I’m a long-time blog reader (lurker?) and so greatly enjoy your beautiful and gentle descriptions of the world. I am really looking forward to reading your Tassie words (and suspecting you’re likely to meet up with all the lovely Tassie people I (quietly) follow on Instagram! You may know her already but if not @ladyjo_and_co might be someone to get you hooked into all the cake/chat/craft networks?)

  2. Wowee, congratulations Pip and whanau! Wishing you much peace and contentment as you begin this next phase of your life. 14. As a fellow returnee it is so lovely to hear you are in the state. We moved back 5 years ago with two teenage girls – they say it was the best thing that could have happened to them. There is so much creativity and sense of community here – may you all be embraced. I will hope one day our paths may cross!
