:: Was Noel Fielding The Child Catcher at The London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony?!

Was Noel Fielding part of the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony?! Was it really him playing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’s Child Catcher?  I think it WAS. Did you see him rollerskating about?  Did you?!  I am sure I did!

I really loved watching the whole ceremony. I though it was so great. Go Danny Boyle!  I loved hearing The Jam and The Sex Pistols and David Bowie and Amy Winehouse and The Arctic Monkeys.  I loved all the amazing dramatics and singing and dancing and sparkly bits.  I loved the TARDIS.  Voldemort!  Mary Poppinses!  Cute uniforms!  Excited people!  I loved it all!
What did you love?
And do you think this is The Mighty Boosh’s Noel/Vince?!  Say YES!
x Pip

  • Hello Everyone! I was the childcatcher in the Olympic opening ceremony 2012… I am Colombian figure skater :) glad you like the show xxx

  • hahaha! I watched it with some friends and we all said the same thing…was it him? I'd like to hope so! Opening ceremony was amazing, made me feel super proud to be british :) loved pretty much the entire thing but my faves were the beautiful torch, the bit wear the rings all came together and the glowing birds on bikes!

  • I thought it was, too! I'm not sure if it really was Noel, but I definitely did a double-take.

It was such a great ceremony, best I've seen for sure.

  • it was just mental! we had friends down for the weekend and all said after that we felt so proud (and cool!) to be British! I am a teensy bit in love with Noel so i really hope it was him…

  • i also thought it was Noel! But i was very upset at the time that there was no Doctor Who reference, but you mentioned the TARDIS being there…. i will have to look this up!

  • I saw that! It did look like him but it was such a quick flash. Loved the landscape and Kenneth Brannagh and Mr Bean.

  • It wasn't Noel, who is far too lovely to play a nasty villain like the Child Catcher, it must have been his evil twin brother, Voel.

  • I thought the opening ceremony was fantasic! It had me wanting to move to London – or least go back for a visit. I thought the part with Mr. Bean was brilliant!

  • Kenneth, Rocket Man/Ziggy and the Wayne's World clip are about all the did it for me. As much as I love Danny Boyle I really didn't connect. Then again I didn't connect with ours in Sydney either. Ten points on the soundtrack though.

  • I love Noel Fielding in The IT crowd! Was it really him?
I loved it all, all those little bits of music from my youth ( but was there WHAM!)?
Loved Kenneth Branagh and JK Rowling etc – it was like an over-the-top pantomime.
The sport will be a let down after the opening!

  • I don't think it was Noel Fielding (sorry!) but it definitely SHOULD have been. I thought the ceremony was great too. I loved the giant chimneys busting out of the ground and the wee doof-doof nod to EastEnders in the opening film and the Queen parachuting into the stadium with James Bond and the giant scary puppets in the Child Catcher bit. I got so excited I almost forgot there would be actual sport happening today!

  • I tweeted the exact same thing, so I say YES!!! Loved the whole thing, I don't often feel patriotic as a Brit, but by God by the time the whole thing ended I felt like my own little empire, despite having simply sat on the couch for over 3 hours!

Ali bought tears to my eyes, Mr Bean made me smile, and having Doreen Lawrence, mum of murdered Stephen Lawrence carry the flag did make me cry

    Go Team GB :)

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this… the best part for me was the crazy drum witch!

  • I thought just the same as you- and on a close look decided it was Noel Fielding. Very impressed with his roller skating! I was transfixed for the whole 3 hours! I loved the James Bond bit, and the oh-so-secret-who-will-light-the-cauldron mystery. The flower petals idea was pure genius! And singing along to all the songs; although that ages me!!!!

  • that's so funny Pip, I was just watching the first section online with my husband & yelled out "that was Noel Fielding!" Then only a couple of minutes later I read this post & am so excited someone else thought it was too :)
I LOVED the Brit team's entrance – Bowie & sparkly gold, awesome!

  • It really was the most amazing show ever. And it seemed to appeal to every generation too. I loved it and am still buzzing from it.
I didn't manage to stay awake for the cauldron but saw it this morning. It was so magical and fantastic.

  • I admit that I wasn't that interested initially- but WOW! Blew me away. We were lucky enough to watch it in 3d which was pretty amazing. Loved the music too.
