Hello peaches!
Today I was in Wangaratta! (And yesterday too!)
I have a piece in a really beautiful exhibition with some other textile artists and our show (called Material Edge) opened today. My work is called #thepompomdiaries. I made pompoms nearly every day, for thirty days. I kept a little diary as I went. You can see it all here if you aren’t able see them in person. (You might have seen the beginnings of this project on Instagram and wondered what it was all about?!)
I gave a little (mini!) talk today about #thepompomdiaries – about how they are about making time to make things each day, about how little things can become big things, about how the internet lets us share projects and ideas near and far, about how reconnecting to childhood crafts and making things together is an important thing, about even more things, in fact!
The nice thing about this installation is that you can be part of it. There’s a pompom wall set up in the gallery and creative types like YOU can make a pompom or two and have them included in the show! There are other ways to join in too. Check in here to find out how to get pompommy!
If you are near Wangaratta (or want to head there for a day trip or road trip), there is a pompom making station all ready for you at the gallery! The show is on until October 19th. Then I’ll be heading back on closing day (October 19th) to lead a crafty session, sewing the pompoms onto a giant rug canvas. (Come along, if you like!)
Thanks for having me Wangaratta Art Gallery! Make sure you head there if you have some time – my work is right next to the amazing Romance Was Born and Douglas McManus and Maricor/Maricar and Kate Just and Kathy Temin’s. They’ve made rad-beautiful things. Remember the dress I was swooning over five years ago? It’s right there, right next to my piece! How amazing! So great to see it up close and personal.
Thanks so much to the gallery gang for including me and installing my pompoms so beautifully: Sally, Di, Emma and Rob (and others too! thank you!)
Do you want to pompom? How cute do they all look?!
x Pip
