Eat Hello

:: The Overnight Oats

June 11, 2014

I made overnight oats last week and a lot of people knew ALL ABOUT nice ways to make them and a lot of people did not know what overnight oats were all about.  I am sure there are lots of names for this idea. Someone said ‘cold oatmeal’ and someone else said ‘a bit like Bircher’. I don’t know because I am not very oat-y. But I like these oats. I do.

How I Made My Oats (via Food52 )

Take a jar – not because you are a hipster, but because a jar is nice and clean and neutral and has a lid.
Fill half with rolled oats
Top up the other half with liquid – milk of your choice, orange juice, apple juice or water are good
Put lid on.
Put in fridge overnight.
In the morning, tip into a big bowl.
(Apparently you can warm it but I like it cold!)
Slice a banana on top. Add some frozen or fresh berries (I used raspberries!) Grate some apple on top. Add some toasted coconut. Sprinkle some cinnamon and/or nutmeg. Blob some honey on top of it all.
Sit down with a nice cup of coffee and the radio on.
Eat it all up!

This is just a loose-y goose-y recipe. You can add the things you like (nuts? seeds?) You can make it warm. You can eat it cold.

Thank you umpires. Thank you ball boys. Good morning to you!
