Ten Things I (Sort Of) Like About Being Sick

November 25, 2015

So. Remember Rin was really sick? Well then I got her bug. A throat infection that has now become a chesty one. Ugh. Still. Things could be worse. And I will be better soon. And there are SO MANY good things about being sick. Right? Because if you just moan about being sick you are a bit of an annoying a-whole.

In the spirit of NOT being an a-whole, here are some things I noticed are actually GOOD. It’s in my nature to TRY to find the silver-freaking-lining. (AND a temporary illness is NOTHING compared to what so many people have to go through…) Let’s do it!

Ten Things I (Sort Of) Like About Being Sick

1. Downton Abbey
Lady Mary and Lady Edith (and the Dowager) are the perfect beneath-the-blankets companions (in a non-sexy way.) You could also add The Walking Dead, The Beautiful Lie and Project Runway Junior as blanket buds.

2. Self awareness
Well. Kind of. I am aware of how much my self wants to moan about being sick – and this is helping me to… Um. I don’t really know. It’s helping me to re-frame stuff in a less moan-y way, with more ease? I’m grasping at straws here, but stick with me.

3. Comfort
Okay. I don’t feel good, but it’s nice to notice how comfy my bed is. Or something.

4. Appreciation
I miss my normal routine and I am going to LOVE IT TO PIECES when I am feeling better. I also miss seeing my friends without fear of giving them a nasty dose of something. Call the WAHmbulance!

5. Ideas
Admittedly they are not free-flowing, but sometimes a shift in circumstance provides a fresh perspective. (This one is actually whole-heartedly true!)

6. The sound of other people cleaning
Oh yes. I am getting on a bit of a roll here. How nice is it to hear the other people in your house sorting things out? So nice.

7. Messages and chicken soup
People are pretty lovely and they send you messages of good health. I really do like that! Also… Cam made me my favourite chicken soup.

8. Crumbs in bed
Granted, this could be a bad thing, but I actually like it because crumbs mean something good has gone before them. Like cake or toast or biscuits.

9. The after shot
Like really. How CRAP do you look when you are sick. It’s like days and days of before shots. Once you actually feel better and snazz yourself up, you feel like Linda Evangelista.

10. Time
When you are sick, you have all the time in the world to do it. Because you have to. It’s sort of an insight into time management – in a patchy way. Like, if you are able to lie around like a wince-y whinger for all these days, maybe you can fit some other good stuff into life when you are better.

Okay. It was a stretch. Let’s face it. But some of these are actually true, right? Argh.

I promise there will be no more coughing and sniffling and mooning about here in the VERY NEAR future.

This is so true, although it is one of those things that always seems like it will be more enjoyable (a week in bed, sounds ideal) until it actually happens! Hope you feel better soon. Ive been catching up on pr junior, great designs so far, especially for so young!

Good on you for finding the silver lining in sickness Pip. Such a positive woman. You’ve inspired me to write a similar post about cold weather – I know it’s not anywhere near as difficult as being sick (or pregnant like Kate above!) but it’s good to quit the silly whingeing and count your blessings. I too have crumbs in the bed issues, but caused by eating toast in bed cos it’s too damn chilly to eat it anywhere else! x

    I concur!!

    On all counts.
Because now that I am Out Of The Dark Woods of Pregnancy ALL DAY Sickness (feeeeel my pain and outrage at Mother Nature in CAPS form) I’m thinking, geez Pip, this list woulda been hella helpful several weeks ago!
    :p
We should all print this out, laminate, and add it to the medicine box/chest/cupboard.
Good medicine. Is what I want (strictly sung like Poison’s Bad Medicine). What I need!
    Thank you.
    With Love from me.
