Taking Stock: October

October 1, 2018
Killing Eve

What better thing to do on a sunny afternoon than stay inside with my computer and write a list?

I am the worst, obviously.

Taking Stock in October

Making: Plans for some new crafty projects
Cooking: Lots of baguettes
Drinking: Vic Market Mornings tea from McIvers
Listening to: Spilling Eve
Reading: Just read Lily Allen’s brilliant My Thoughts Exactly
Next read: Lab Girl by Hope Jahren
Wanting: New Birkenstocks for the warmer days that lie ahead
Looking: At my finished blanket. A lot.
Playing: Lily Allen via Spotify
Deciding: This person is a genius
Wishing: I had a lot more energy
Enjoying: Killing Eve (watched it all!)
Waiting: For cotton dress and sandal days
Liking: Watching extreme baking videos. This one is so good.
Wondering: About mitochondria and microbiomes and stuff like that
Loving: Making Nigella’s potatoes. An old and comforting fave.
Pondering: What to do with my hair – cut? colour? do. not. know. Have not been to hairdresser in nearly 3 years!
Considering: That it’s not long until we have lovely in-season tomatoes again.
Buying: Fancy second hand cake pans, when I see them.
Watching: Re-runs of The Real Housewives of New York. #MentionItAll
Next watch: Hopefully new episodes of Terrace House on Netflix. I think they are due any day now.
Hoping: To make a lemon tart this week. And a pie.
Marvelling: At the seal who slapped the man with the octopus, obviously.
Cringing: At a lot of crap things on the news/Twitter.
Needing: To also take in the new Chef’s Table season.
Questioning: Why I delete so many things before I hit publish. #stagefright
Smelling: Lavender oil. It helps me sleep a bit better.
Wearing: An old (favourite) black floral dress
Following: Too many podcasts
Worrying: Well. Trying not to, to be honest. So let’s move on.
Noticing: That I very much like a lot of the frocks Leighton Meester wears
Knowing: I’m about to sign a contract for Book 6 with a delightful publisher who sent me a great offer and I can’t believe it, so I will hide this HERE. Who even reads this whole thing anyway?! LOL.
Thinking: About all that Lily Allen went through
Admiring: The pretzels that were on Martha Bakes
Sorting: YES. I should be sorting stuff. Why am I not sorting stuff? It is SPRING after all!
Getting: Creaky. More yoga required.
Bookmarking: Recipes. With actual bookmarks in actual books. Okay not bookmarks, but torn up shreds of paper, which is similar.
Coveting: A new/old rug for my living room. #PraysToRoadsideRubbishGodsForABeauty
Disliking: Creaks. But liking creeks, obviously. Creeks are rad.
Opening: The back door to give the pup leftover chicken wings
Giggling: At this clip that everyone seems to be sharing again
Feeling: Inspired by Neve
Snacking: On Women’s Weekly Family Chocolate Cake. (From the yellow box recipes! With glacé icing!)
Hearing: Doves outside my window

I promise I will go out in the sunshine now (and let the dog jump all over me and scratch my legs and put pup hair all over my black leggings. You’re welcome!!)

Another to the end reader here! Killing Eve captivated me, I binge watched it last week. I hope there is a second season coming, the ending seemed to leave it open for more.

Oh yay for book 6!! I still re-read Craft for the Soul at least a couple of times each year or when a frumpy attack happens! Congratulations and can’t wait for more details!

Yay, a new book contract! Love how you hid it down the bottom of the list. And I also know the ‘delete before publishing’ feeling. Sometimes hard to know just how personal one can go in a blog. Especially when your parents read it! Somehow that is more scary than the internet-at-large, for me. Happy spring to you, Pip. I should be doing more sorting too but who can be arsed?

And me! Congratulations on your next book! Thank you for sharing your lovely list.

I’m a thankful reader to the ender too. Look forward to the new book, and now out into the sunshine go you

A new book. Can’t wait. Go you clever girl.
As for the hair, I’m in a similar situation, wonder what we will both do?
    Cheers Kate

Of course people read to the end! I do anyway. Wow book deal (number 6?) Pip, you are nothing less than a wonderful inspiration.
Love how you cook & bake & relish the tweets (birds not online stuff) yet enjoy the 21stC 1st world stuff like Real Housewives.
Podcasts – yesss! totally. Dispatch to a Friend is my new fave.
The Lily Allen thing, not so much. But I recognise that although she is from a highly privileged background that doesn’t mean she is immune to the fragile & sad parts of life many have thrown at them. Quite liked the ‘in the bathroom’ videos she was interviewed recently.
Has ‘Bodyguard’ arrived on your screens down under? You’ll be gripped for sure.

Oh Paula! Re Lily – it’s so interesting to hear HER view of how her parents impacted her career. It’s quite different from what has been covered in the press. Also her writing about the loss of baby George is incredible and very sad. Thank you for the kind words – and Bodyguard rec, too. It’s not here yet, but I am awaiting it on tenterhooks!! x

Oh I so understand. I saw her talk about her baby previously. I just cannot imagine it. I think her book is something I will read after the popular flurry.
She is so young as well, to have so many people around, & yet not around. I’m not judge, jury & executioner, just waiting in the wings shall we perhaps say.
Maybe its just me. I mean I only recently got into greys anatomy, scandal & bothers & sisters!

Oh meant to say, yoga – cant do it. So big thumbs up for you.
I get dizzy head down, stand up etc. then the whole meant to be not thinking just makes me think more….
But I get it though, just wish I could. Sadly, I have tried & failed too many times.
swimming, walking, digging the garden does it for me.
