Taking Stock: October

October 30, 2017
Delicious! Pink Le Creuset pots

Let’s Take Stock because the month is nearly over and it’s a good time to think about where we’ve been, right?!

Taking Stock for October

Making : A house a home.
Cooking : This chicken for dinner
Drinking : Tea. I know. Always with the tea. I’m a wreck. I’m drinking lots of water too, so I’m not all bad.
Reading: How To Be A Woman by Caitlin Moran. Can’t. Stop. Laughing. And. Nodding. This article about American style Chinese Chicken Salad.
Wanting: Some more sunny days, please. To cook this noodle recipe.
Looking: At the treetops.
Playing: Podcasts. Lots of them.
Deciding: Which of the 12 things I want to do should come next.
Wishing: The days were twice as long so I can do all the things.
Enjoying: A coffee and cherry danish and walk in the Heide gardens with my friend and her toddler on Sunday.
Waiting: For my sister to come and visit in November!
Liking: That my dog is feeling better and getting used to life in a one pup family. This article about Mitford-themed jumpers. How good.
Wondering: Where what things will be like this time next year.
Loving: This rainy afternoon. I KNOW. I am complex, aren’t I?!
Pondering: What time to start cooking dinner – early or late? How smartphones promote anxiety and inhibit resilience.
Considering: The Christmas budget. Gulp.
Buying: Tomatoes, cucumbers, feta, red onion – we’re a bit nuts for Greek salad at the moment.
Watching: Stranger Things Season 2. Done and dusted. So good. (Have you watched it yet?) Also the Joan Didion documentary. Also great. (Both on Netflix!) PLUS Rosehaven (ABC TV). I love it SO MUCH. And also Classic Countdown (Also ABC TV). For all the feel good fun.
Hoping: I can get the 2 books I’m writing finished this year.
Marvelling: At how quickly the year has whizzed by.
Cringing: At The Bachelorette. Don’t judge me! I love Sophie Monk. Always have. Always will.
Needing: A cup of tea? You know I do. I really, really do.
Questioning: Why everyone in so in love with the Ottolenghi Cauliflower Cake recipe. Maybe I need to make it to find out why?
Smelling: Rosemary I nicked from someone’s front garden.
Wearing: Obus dress, cardigan from the op shop, leggings, converse sneakers, undies etc.
Following: Literary Hub. So much that is good for people who love to write and read.
Noticing: There is a very big brown pig on the loose somewhere in America. *insert joke here* I saw it on the news just now. It was hard to tell how big the pig was. They should have put a matchbox next to it for scale, or something.
Knowing: I have a tin of Peppermint Bark in the cupboard. Thanks to Williams Sonoma for sending me that! Have you seen the bundt pans they have?! Perfect for Gingerbread Bundt, for Christmas.
Thinking: About Hedy Lamar. What an amazing person.
Admiring: Fran’s work. So great.
Sorting: Through old baby photos with Rin and it’s so hilarious and mortifying and I love it.
Getting: A sore neck from sitting like this. Am continuing to sit like this, however. I’m a freaking daredevil’s what I am.
Bookmarking: Laurie Penny’s blog. So much to think about.
Coveting: Pink pots! How great are they?! The yellow ones might be good for you? I’m helpful, right?
Disliking: Blake from The Bachelorette. What a knob.
Opening: Nail polish and realising it’s all really old and gooey. Blerk.
Giggling: At Caitlin Moran. As mentioned. Also at pets being jerks.
Feeling: Like a hot bath. Feels about Michael Hutchence and Paula and Peaches and the rest, after the recent sad doco on TV.
Snacking: On yoghurt and frozen raspberries (the Aldi ones are so nice!)
Hearing: Birds, birds, birds! There are a pair of spotted doves nesting in a tree outside my kitchen window and they are GIVING ME LIFE! They’re so messy and cooing all the time and it’s just adorable. I’m calling them Patti and Robert.

Patti Smith and Robert Smith, New York

I listen to How To Be a Woman, read by Caitlin, a few weeks back & loved it! She is funny indeed! And earlier this year I found her fiction novel- How to Build a Girl- in the oppy, it was fab!!! Read it if you can.
And you are the second person to mention the cauli cake today. I don’t understand the hype but I am always looking for ways to eat lots of veg so who knows, maybe I will!

I always enjoy your taking stock posts.
That pasta dish sounds yummy, think I will make something similar tomorrow night, good way to use up some left over roast veg I have. I read the article about smartphones and anxiety, it made a lot of sense to me.
What are the books you are writing about?

I just realised Rosehaven is filmed in Geeveston. Such a pretty place! How lovely is the Huon Valley? I like those pots too. They are so cheerful!
