Pip-Life Taking Stock

Taking Stock: March

March 6, 2017

I quite fancied doing a bit of a de-jumbling Taking Stock today because life is feeling a bit clutter-y and chaotic. It’s actually so nice to do this little exercise. Not only does it help me document the things I am liking and doing, it also helps me realise the things I am liking and doing. It’s sort of an anti-chaos too, if you like.

Here’s what the hap is in my neck of the woods…

Taking Stock for March

Making : A blanket for my friends’ new baby Jaxson. I’m using ‘track stitch’ which sounds very Trainspotting or Thomas or something, but is actually just a sort of stripe.
Cooking : Nourishing and delicious foods! Brownies, Soup Paysanne, Potato Curry, Dhal, Sambal.
Drinking : A lot of tea and some Pinot Grigio too.
Reading : War and Peace. So good. So LARGE. Much bear and manners.
Trawling : Abe Books. Books are my life. It’s just the only way it’s ever going to be.
Wanting : To have a bubble bath, but it’s kind of too hot, but I want to do it. I do.
Looking : At the swaying trees. Thank goodness for trees. They are tucked all around my house.
Deciding : What to post for International Women’s Day.
Wishing : To do a hair treatment because my hair is like straw at the moment. Which one is good for dry hair, guys?
Enjoying : I finally watched Victoria and I loved it so much and wish I hadn’t watched it, so that I could watch it for the first time!
Waiting : For some books to arrive in the post.
Liking : Creepy TV – The Missing Season 2 (Foxtel Play) and Broadchurch (ABC free to air).
Wondering : If I should make an apple cake. I kind of want to…
Loving : Making things, because it just makes me feel good and anchored and right. Plus, loving my kiddos. Of course.
Pondering : Life’s complexities.
Listening : To ABC News Radio.
Considering : That I need an outdoor setting, but not sure where to start. Most of the ones you can buy are so gross, right?!
Buying : My favourite white chocolate. It’s back in stock at the local health food place. PHEW!
Watching : The Real Housewives of Sydney. What the heck? Those ladies are QUITE rude.
Hoping : To get some more plants for my living room. Plants are lovely AND helpful.
Marvelling : At how cheery the birds are each day. Do you think they ever get crabby?
Cringing : At guess who? Trump! I always say that for this one, right?!
Needing : To send my kiddo some flowers because it’s her birthday tomorrow (I am seeing her the NEXT day for proper present-ing and dinner.)
Questioning : All of the things. And why there is not a Moroccan embroidery school on my street.
Smelling : The toast I burnt a little bit. Such a comforting smell.
Wearing : Glasses.
Noticing : My really nice friend Michelle on this blog.
Knowing : This is my favourite bread at the moment.
Thinking : About Barbara Pym.
Admiring : This cake. I want to make a blanket that looks a bit like it! Also my friends. I am admiring them.
Getting : The urge to buy pink and green yarn… (see above!)
Bookmarking : This piece about Instagramming and blogging mums. And this piece, too.
Disliking : Tailgaters. Why do people do that. It’s so aggressive. Back off guys. (Not you, obvs!)
Opening : A workshop for community craft project creation and friendship advocacy. Oh wait. That was a dream from the other night.
Closing : The door before the one that opens.
Feeling : A bit fuzzy. Also excited about a thing I am sewing.
Hearing : A distant school bell. Which is not a bell. It’s a meep-ing siren.
Celebrating :  The birth of my first kiddo (she was born tomorrow 29 years ago.)
Pretending : To be on top of things, mostly.
Embracing : Sincerity, as per ewe-jh.

“why there is not a Moroccan embroidery school on my street.” Lol! Why not indeed?
And to tailgaters, I always comment on how an extremely important person has come up behind me. Very, super extremely important. Out the way the rest of you mediocre people! 😀
It makes me happy to be silly about it or the other option is I could get all cranky 🙂

Always love your taking stock posts! I am so curious about Soup Paysanne, I didn’t know what it was so I had to google it. Do you have a favorite recipe? Did you post one before and I may have missed it? My googling turned up a few recipes and it sounds delish, I want to make it for dinner but not sure which recipe I want to use! 🙂

Hmm, time for me to do this too…thanks for the tap on the shoulder 🙂 Perfect timing, as always!

I just read the Instagram perfect mummy blogger article. Gosh that would be a weird life. You’d never know what was real and what wasn’t. I pity the kidlets as they grow up. The embroidery school though – how lovely! Also, I went to a session at Adelaide Writers’ Week today, so questioning and pondering a lot.

Oh I love this, what a great idea Pip! Such a good way to digest everything that is going on. Victoria is one of my favourite movies, I have a soft spot for all things Englishly and Victorianish era. Maybe you could find an old cane outdoor setting to restore for outside…and making cake is always a good idea! As for opening a community craft and friendship project, in my feed just yesterday was a memory from 1 year ago of you, my sister and I when you opened the Craft Crowd at our local art gallery and they’re relaunching it this weekend for another year full of fun, friends, craft and learning new things. I’ll be putting my name down for some classes! 🙂

Oh hello you! Gosh, time flies doesn’t it?! Hi Bundy!! Have you watched Victoria – the TV series? It’s wonderful! Thanks for checking in here (and I think you are right about CANE!) xx

Fab post – might do a re-taking stock myself. Good one for the turn of new seasons. Find it interesting & giggly (in a nice way, not superior) that you in another continent love broadchurch & Victoria. Has Downtown reached you? What of Morse? If you like a change & in the mood for murder, try ‘the killing’ scandi & subtitled. Have to also note Pip, I picked up on your linked words – I’m all over this technique now, as the saying goes: on it like a car bonnet.
& finally, you have a child that is 29? How come, you only look 35 yourself! X

I have watched The Killing – it’s brilliant, yes! And Downton, yes! Also loved The Crown! x

I always discover something new and interesting from your blog. Thank you.
I love Broadchurch so excited it is back.
I’m off to read about the insta mums.

Aw. I am so glad that it strikes a chord with you, Kate. Thanks for the ace feedback. xx

Hubby is away this week so I think a Victoria binge may be in order! I loved the first ep of Broadchurch. Olivia Coleman is so ace!

Lush H’Suan Wen Hua is the best treatment for straw hair I have ever used (and I have used a lot).

    • Reply Meet Me At Mikes March 6, 2017 at 5:16 PM

Oh thank you! I was thinking of going to Lush, because they took such a great stand on penalty rates. You have totally convinced me 🙂 Thank you! x

I read that article about instagramming mums the other week & I was a bit shocked & grossed out by it. That might sound mean but building a certain thing in the house just for the photos you can take of it sounds nuts to me!!
I caught some of RHWS on Gogglebox ( love that show! ) & WOW!!! Who ARE these people!!!
I’ve just finished reading The Dirty Chef by Mattew Evans. SO GOOD! Have you read it? I think you’d like it. And I found a Lily Brett book in the oppy the other day & because I’d seen you talk about how good they were I bought it ( & 2 others ). Two dollars a book! Can’t really say no can you.
    Enjoy celebrating Rin’s birthday x

Oh hello! I have that book on my shelf – The Dirty Chef – but have not got to it yet! Thanks for the rec. I will make sure it gets done this year!! Hope you enjoy Lily <3 xx
