Oh hello!

It’s been a little while since I did ‘Taking Stock’, but I know lots of people have been merrily doing it all over the internet. I think it’s really cool that a simple little exercise can slow things down and tell us a lot about where we are and who we are. It’s neat-o!

I’ve added some fresh things to the list this month, so maybe you want to play along too (with the lure of the new?!)

Here’s a little snapshot of me. (Scroll down for a blank list that you can cut and paste to you fave part of the internet/your phone/your computer!)

Taking Stock: June

Making : A lot of tea cosies. I am a bit obsessed!
Cooking : Pumpkin soup. Pumpkin is so plentiful and delicious at the moment.
Drinking : A heck of a lot of tea. And heaps of water. And wishing for coffee. We ran out yesterday. Dang.
Reading: Dani Shapiro’s Still Writing and I’m trying to find time to start Outlander. Life is so busy! Gah.
Wanting: A quiet day to be here soon.
Looking: Out onto the back garden. Lots of trees. Lots of leaves. Two damp banana lounges. A bare fence in need of some green.
Playing: Ella Fitzgerald and the Design Matters podcast.
Deciding: On which order to do which thing in today.
Wishing: To have more energy.
Enjoying: Broad City. My kids love it and I’m trying to be down with the kids.
Waiting: For a yarn order to arrive. Yay for new colours and new projects!
Liking: A new granny square pattern I tried last night.
Wondering: If people know how good a toasted onion bagel with butter and Promite is.
Loving: Writing useful or fun things that people like to read.
Pondering: If I have time to go to the library.
Considering: A dumpling lunch. I love dumplings with black vinegar and chilli oil. Yum.
Buying: Some new nibs and ink. I have been practicing writing with some old ones I have, but am ready to upgrade.
Watching: The Path. I am really liking it a lot. Creepy and unsettling and ace.
Hoping: I can manage my time well in the next week because I have heaps of things to do.
Marvelling: At the fact that all my kids have jobs now. Gainfully employed!
Cringing: A bit at the business of online ‘influence’ and what it really means…
Needing: To get out of my walking clothes and get dressed properly.
Questioning: Why there is no gosh-darned coffee in the house. I like coffee. It’s the truth.
Smelling: A lack of coffee.
Wearing: Sneakers, leggings, dorky t-shirt…
Following: Bon_Chic on Instagram. (I wrote about her yesterday too!)
Noticing: I am possibly growing a very fine beard. I think I AM! Gasp!
Knowing: Yellow and red leaves are really nice.
Thinking: That my house is nice and cosy and sunshine grabbing.
Admiring: Anna Spargo-Ryan. Her debut book is out and it’s going gangbusters.
Sorting: Out what goes in my workroom and what stays tucked away elsewhere.
Getting: Used to not having Bronte here (Bronte is our friends’ cat. We just finished cat-sitting her at our place.)
Bookmarking: This blog. I really love reading it. Alway something unexpected and non-generic and heart-felt. So many blogs are so glossy and same-same now. I love it when a blog is more personal and true to the writer, and you can find out about their life.
Coveting: A new coat. I am working with Obus this year and I have half an eye on this one.
Disliking: Never-ending election-related coverage from across the globe.
Opening: A package full of chunky yarn.
Giggling: At Broad City. Of course. #SoWrong
Feeling: A bit puffy. Around the eyes. And also the body.
Snacking: On crackers with tomato, sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Helping: My friend with her party. She’s turning 40. There will be singing AND dancing, apparently. PLUS cake.
Hearing: Birds twittering in the tree tops.
Mixing: Up my priorities a lot of the time.
Worrying: About… How I am waking up at all hours of the night, WIDE awake. Worrying makes me even more wakeful
Slicing: Rye and caraway seed bread. For toast. Yum.
Celebrating: The fact that Seasons 3 and 4 of Outlander have been confirmed.
Forgetting: To write it all down.
Winning: At…. having warm toes!
Pretending: To know what I am doing.
Sneaking: Little glimpses at our dogs playing.
Embracing: These cosier, crisper days.

Gorgeous, Pip. I am envying your warm toes. Mine are chilly. How good is Still Writing? I am glad I find out about Dani Shapiro, maybe through you. I had dumplings with vinegar and chilli for lunch today at the South Melbourne Market and they were DELICIOUS – although the while I was eating them I had to stop thinking ‘these are yum but they are 500 x the price of dumplings in China’! I agree that personal blogs are so much better than the shiny generic type. Thanks for sharing your Taking Stock. I will do my own soon, though I don’t want it to be emo and moping about not having a job…does anyone out there need a professional dumpling taste tester? x

Pondering: bed or more prosecco (but that will involve opening a second bottle)
Buying: homewares I don’t need. But I have stopped buying wool and typewriters. For the time being.
Watching: Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, The Good Wife, Masterchef, Lucifer and more
Hoping: I can sleep, and my kids let me sleep in

    Hi Pip!

I LOVE the rug that Bronte is sitting on in the picture in the middle on the second row! I’m assuming it is one of your creations…. Can you direct me to where I might find the pattern?

    Love your work,
    Claire

Oouuuhh, this is a very neat idea 😀 I came here through The Illusive Femme blog 😀

Well knowing someone’s winning at the warm toes business explains why I’m losing! But I feel you on the coffee front – we ran out earlier this week and the 36 hour gap before new (and even then substandard) coffee arrived was a sad time.
