Pip-Life Taking Stock

Taking Stock: June

June 29, 2017
Jaffle of goodness

June is nearly over, which means the year is half over too. As the days whizz by, it’s good to cast the net and gather in some of the thoughts, feelings, things, people, places and ideas that have been milling about. Here are mine, for June, in case you care!

Taking Stock for June

Making: Blankets, quilts, wash cloths, things!
Cooking: Japanese steak and veggie rice bowls for Ari and me. Baked potatoes with lots of salad things and sour cream and homus and cheese piled on top. Spaghetti.
Drinking: Tea. Always tea. Tea times 123.
Reading: The Pursuit of Love in book form (LOVE) – and The Foundling in audio form (needs a BRACING edit and a better narrator!)
Trawling: Through old photos of pre-Instagram life. So good. So imperfect!
Wanting: A cup of tea. I TOLD you! Nobody can stop me!
Looking: At Zoe Foster-Blake’s new collab. Iced VoVos! I don’t know much about her partner Skin and Threads approach to making/ethics, but the range looks super cute! Will further investigate!
Deciding: What to take to Hobart on the weekend. (I’m putting the ho in Hobart!)
Wishing: For some new jeans. High waisted and stretch-ish and black. Suck-in-ish, even, but not so they fold you in half.
Enjoying: The quiet at my house. I’m home alone. Birds are tweeting a LOT of good stuff at me.
Waiting: For my Korean face mask to be done – it’s this one in Caviar. Thanks Drew Barrymore. This strawberry mask is also super ace and smells delicious..
Liking: This story about show-off cockatoos. Such hooligans. Much drumming.
Wondering: If it can get any colder… Brrrr. I have kidney-shaped ice cubes clattering about in me, I swear.
Loving: The loving response to the Avid Reader/Clem Ford situation.
Pondering: The language strategy and “wordy weapons” people use against each other, in the wake of a couple of weird emails/Facebook comments/posts directed at me this week. (They were protesting my support of Clem Ford.) It’s interesting how people observe others, find an Achilles heel (mine is being liked!) and then attack it. This manipulative behaviour is foreign to me and I am learning a lot about other humans as I unravel it.
Listening: To Trace. Heartbreaking, but it might just crack the case and see justice done. Also the rain. It’s raining here right now.
Considering: What to make for dinner. Soup? Teriyaki chicken? I am not sure…
Buying: New toothbrushes. Oh hurrah. I’ve been on a tight budget, so new toothbrushes is pretty exciting to me. (What kind do you have? Are some better than others?)
Watching: Million Dollar Listing. I love Josh and Edith Flagg. What happened to Colton? Why?!
Hoping: The dust settles soon. Life is a bit bonkers right now. People are confusing.
Marvelling: At how quickly my hair grows and reveals a good half inch of regrowth!
Cringing: At how much dog poo I have to pick up in the backyard. Urk. It’s PooMageddon out there.
Needing: To focus my many bright ideas into the one I want to work on right now.
Questioning: Everything, always, sigh, shoosh.
Smelling: Face mask. It smells fresh. Fresh is good.
Wearing: My Gilmore Girls sweat. It’s my favourite. It’s getting nice and smooshy after so many wears now.
Noticing: Sometimes Ugg Boots are too cosy, and then socks work better.
Knowing: I look like a scary, scary lady with this mask on. Like I might chop you into tiny pieces or something…
Thinking: About downloading a movie for the flight. What do you suggest? Nothing that will make me cry, please! Don’t say LION because even the thought of it makes me cry!
Admiring: People who try to help. Like Maggie.
Getting: Hungry. Needing toast. Or maybe some fried rice. With heaps of chilli? Yes. A Vietnamese pork roll even? Sure.
Bookmarking: This very fun and trashy page about my favourite fun and trashy shows.
Opening: A packet of TimTams.
Closing: All the inside doors to keep the heat trapped.
Feeling: Tired. Quiet. I had the flu. And a tummy bug. So I’m trying to feel 100 percent again.
Hearing: The garbage truck tipping all the bins out.
Celebrating: My cute sister’s birthday earlier this week.
Pretending: I’m as productive as I want to be (I’m not really!)
Embracing: Recovering from a month of various stupid illnesses.

I haven’t really been posting much to Instagram because my view has mostly been my blankets and a jar of Vicks and a half-empty bottle of Benadryl. Here’s hoping JULY is a MUCH better month in this neck of the woods.

Hope you are well and not feeling tired and recover-y like me! I’m going to take myself out for a coffee and a cheering book-buy, I think!

Love to you!

xx Pip

Pip! What a nice surprise to see your link to the campaign. Thank you, and I admire you right back, nice person.

Ahhhhhh I am finally going to commit to doing this! I have always read yours and others taking stocks and love them and I always say to myself next month and next month never ever comes!

Didn’t that Clem Ford/Avid Reader situ go off like a frog in a sock! Every day I think I wish more people cared about my blog and “liked” my page (completely aside from the fact I haven’t written anything new for months!) and then I see things like that explode and perfectly innocent bystanders get dragged in and I think ummmmm nope I am happy here in my anonymous little corner.

Hope you had a great time in Hobart xoxo

Hey Pip, if you’re looking for a crafty themed movie, I’d recommend Yarn. Saw it on Netflix last week, about four yarn artists doing their thing including a super cool lady who crochets giant kids playgrounds!

Go for a bamboo toothbrush with charcoal bristles. 😉

I had such a distressing day with my auto immune disease, really dry mouth and swallowing issues. Anxious? Totally. Oh and lets not forget a small car accident yesterday in a car park (cha-ching!). Yet I had so much fun reading your Taking Stock post I managed to chew down a schnitzel my mummy made. That’s right I am 41 years old with two young kids but when my mum makes her yearly visit I get to be the kid again. Get well soon! Being sick sucks. Go the Olive Leaf Extract it really works! The Pia Zodora post was ace btw. I had fun going down the internet rabbit hole on that one.

Great to catch up with you again here. Your taking stock is a great way to sit. think and write. Thank you for it and I always acknowledge it’s from here! In fact, every 9 weeks give or take, I am using it as a prompt over at my blog for the Linky I run called #lifethisweek.
My next taking stock is going to be tricky as three days afterwards I will be having major surgery for nasty cancer inside my mouth. It’s horrid. However, I am HOPING it will only be found there. So, blogging is going off the boil after my Monday & Tuesday posts until I return home and have a brain which is not too affected by being under anaesthetic for the 10-12 hours. Yikes. Anyway, not to be a downer…blogging has been and always will be a great space in which to write and catch up. Happy stay in Hobart! Denyse xx

I am sorry to hear this Denyse. How worrying that must be for you. When are you going in for your surgery? Thinking of you, chicken. xx

        Pip
I could be wrong but I am pretty sure Denyse had a crappy CA diagnosis a few weeks ago. I am pretty sure she wrote about it but again I am not 100% because my brain is still anaesthetic foggy so I am not sure if I read that or imagined it
Sending you all my love Denyse xoxo

Ooh, I’ve been listening to Trace too. Heartbreaking and tragic.and definitely stay away from Lion. My Pip and I SOBBED through it!

    • Reply Pip June 29, 2017 at 9:05 PM

Oh Trace. Gosh. The younger son’s statement broke my heart. I hope they find out who was responsible. So many sad stories intertwined, it’s almost too much, but I am going to keep listening in support of the survivors and victims. x

Miss B haha – although I may go with Mystery!

      • Reply Pip June 29, 2017 at 9:03 PM

I mean, why NOT go with it? It’s very enigmatic. x

Hi Pip. Had a laugh at picking up dog poo. Our backyard is covered in beautiful Autumn leaves that I just want to leave there but it makes it very hard to find the dog poo lurking about.I have always loved tea but have gone off it a bit lately, especially with a tea bag. I have always preferred a pot of tea but sometimes there isn’t time. My preferred beverage is coffee at the moment, not instant though.Maybe I will get my tea mojo back.Really enjoyed reading your list.

Coffee is pretty wonderful, so I can understand why you’re leaning coffee-wards…! x

  • Reply Isabel June 29, 2017 at 1:40 PM

Nice one Pip. A cheering coffee and book buy sounds just the ticket. I don’t understand the “find Achilles heel and attack” brigade. Rise above, I say. I bet they wouldn’t say such mean things to your face, either. Your jaffle looks delish! I’m just heating up some spanakopita for lunch…mmm. Here’s hoping July is less flu-infested for you! x

    • Reply Pip June 29, 2017 at 4:14 PM

Rise above indeed! In fact, whizz right over the top and sprinkle glitter on those mean types! xx

  • Reply Clare Etheridge June 29, 2017 at 11:16 AM

Wow man, I must have posted my June Stock Take at the same exact time as you. I was not wearing a home made face mask though and now I realize what was missing!! I was and am drinking the tea and I am pleased that you are feeling better. We are so topsy turvy in that you are freezing and I am boiling in the Mid West summer. Boo.

We are obviously OPPOSITE twins which is an actual thing. Yup! xx
