Hello Pip-Life Taking Stock

:: Taking Stock: January

January 26, 2015

The Galapagos AffairThe Galapagos AffairThe Galapagos Affair The Galapagos AffairImages sourced via The Galapagos Affair: Satan Comes To Eden – such a crazy/cool documentary!

I thought it might be a good time to stop and take stock. So here goes…

Making : a blanket (quel surprise!)
Cooking : my favourite breakfast at the moment: a 2 egg omelette with zucchini, red onion, mushrooms and tomatoes – sprinkled with spices, a little bit of vinegar and a slosh of oil
Drinking : herbal tea – blackcurrant, chamomile and peppermint mostly – I’m trying to ease up on the caffeine a bit because my body was feeling a bit creaky at the end of last year and maybe a bit of restraint will help.
Reading: I just finished Lost & Found by Brooke Davis. I loved it. Three fantastic characters ricocheting across the country together.
Wanting: a table because Ari ‘borrowed’ mine and took it upstairs. All the things that were on my table are on the floor now.
Looking: at lovely, drizzly grey skies. I know some people love the heat of Summer, but I like milder days.
Playing: a game with myself – watching movies themed around adventure, survival, bravery and discovery.
Deciding: where we might like to live next. Our lease is finally up in September. A new adventure for us.
Wishing: I had less stuff
Enjoying: this beautiful new year
Waiting: for this book I pre-ordered to arrive
Liking: rockmelon/canteloupe – whatever you call it, when it’s ripe and sweet it’s perfect.
Wondering: How long I can make this final day of the long weekend last
Loving: lying on the couch
Pondering: whether to keep my studio or move it back home
Considering: handwriting drills. My writing is so messy!
Watching: this movie. So weird and wonderful.
Hoping: to get some new yarn today. I’ve used up all my fave colours.
Marvelling: at the days zooming by already. I’m trying to make plans to make the best of them.
Needing: to get dressed at some point, before I waste the day away.
Smelling: rain and coffee
Wearing: favourite op-shopped yoga pants
Following this new-to-me blog
Noticing: I have a crush on James Nesbit
Knowing: I need to deal with all the things on the floor today
Thinking: I need to be writing my new book, but it’s so hard to write during the busy school holidays
Admiring: people who don’t need applause
Sorting: in my mind. In my mind I’m sorting the whole house out, but I’m not actually doing it.
Buying: very little. It’s over-rated and I have too much already.
Getting: excited that my book is about to be set free (and also nervous).
Bookmarking: this and this
Disliking: the smell of nutmeg and vitamins
Opening: the front door a lot. We have so many visitors!
Giggling: at Jimmy Fallon. I like watching him after dinner most nights (esp the ‘thank you’ segment!)
Feeling: amazed that my baby is fifteen
Snacking: on Natural Tucker brownies
Coveting: neater eyebrows
Wishing: we didn’t call this day Australia Day
Helping: Ari get prepared for the new school year
Hearing: swishing tyres on the damp road outside

And here’s a blank list for you to copy and paste (in case you want to join in)

Sorting -in my mind – I laughed out loud & snorted at that one! Yes, I’ve been doing a little actual sorting & a LOT of imaginary sorting! I’m taking part with you on these posts too, love them as a reminder of the everyday.

I am noticing we have a few things in common here. I, too, love the mild weather and I often wonder why I live in south east Queensland where the summer is so long and so hot and so humid. I wish I could move our family to cooler climes. Also I’ve been pondering whether to shut my little shop/studio space down and run it from home. So much to think about. I think I might do a January taking stock. I haven’t done one in a while. It’s a good thing to do and it might just help me answer some of my questions. And it should fit in nicely with my new blog. Thank you as always for these lovely posts.

Love this pip. Will do mine this week. How exciting to be moving again. We used to move often and we have now been in our house 4 years- most settled in 20 years although hubby says this year it is renovate or move timr lol. I am jealous of your milder days coming. We have to wait til March for real changes from evil summer heat in Brisbane.

I am excited to move. We’ve been here for almost 8 years, so it will be nice to settle somewhere new! xx

    Hi Pip!
I’m also enjoying the grey weather, and I think I too have a crush on James Nesbitt. Assume you are a fan of Cold Feet already? If not, you must watch it…it’s the BEST!
Inspired by you, and FINALLY having the time and energy to write, I published my first blog post today! It will mostly be about my 2015 living in China, but this first post is about your home land of Tassie:

Just wanted to say a big THANKS for the inspiration and although I was a quiet member of the Blog with Pip class, it certainly did give me a kick up the pants. Hope the rest of this public holiday stretches out as long as possible for you 🙂 Isabel

Oh yes I loved Cold Feet! I watched that RELIGIOUSLY when it first came out. SO good, right?! Thanks heaps for reading and commenting, and also CONGRATS on your new blog! xxx

Thanks! And I forgot to mention – I saw The Galapagos Affair at the Melb Film Festival last year. It was really strange and macabre. Imagine living on an island in the wilderness, sounds romantic but it would be very hard going.

I love James Nesbitt too! Lately, I have been loving him as Bofur in The Hobbit, he is one of the nicest dwarves.

Another thing to watch if you like him, and don’t mind a bit of a scare, is the BBC show Jekyll. Oh gosh, it’s good! Very thrilling!
There’s a trailer here if you want a preview, but I really, really recommend it!

It’s very different to Jimmy’s character in Cold Feet, but it’s so great.
