Pip-Life Taking Stock

Taking Stock: Early September

September 6, 2017
Zali ZigZag Blanket

How can it be September already? I am not READY for the end of the year to arrive! I have things I still need to dooooooo, year! Dang. The days were long, but the months were short with this one.

Here is what I’ve been up to, since I last did Taking Stock in July.

Making : A Zali ZigZag blanket.
Cooking : The usual things. Salads, dumplings, risotto, toast.
Drinking : Mostly tea. Sometimes Ribena.
Reading: The White Queen (my mum sent it to me, because I loved the TV series. I also loved The White Princess, so she sent me that too!)
Trawling: My Feedly for good things like this article about hummingbirds. Imagine being a hummingbird whisperer like that.
Wanting: Warmer days. I’m cold all the time. Argh. Because anaemia (but it’s on the mend.)
Looking: At my favourite morning show – ABC Breakfast. Where is Virginia today? Is she sick?
Deciding: What to make for breakfast. I think some slow-sauteed potatoes. And a pan of spinach and mushrooms and tomatoes.
Wishing: Things were clearer, but knowing stuff takes time.
Enjoying: Watching crappy TV shows like The Real Housewives. I KNOW! I am the worst!
Waiting: For this book I ordered to be ready. Remember Bunny Mellon?
Liking: My hot water bottle. Such a steady pal, right?!
Wondering: How everyone is coping with these Winter-y Spring days. Well. I suppose it’s not like this in the northern parts of Australia, but we’re totally getting in in the south!
Loving: The way my dog ripped up his brand new cute and cosy bed. NOT REALLY loving it. Why do dogs do that?
Pondering: Whether to run and put the potatoes on now. I think I will. Also, this article by Design Sponge on the State of Blogging.

One moment please…

…. (insert sound of chopping and melting and sizzling)

Okay I’m back!

Listening: To the currawongs in the garden. They sound like this. How great is that?
Considering: How to navigate the expensive months of December and January.
Buying: Kewpie Roasted Sesame Dressing. Because Chat 10, Looks 3 got me onto it and I’m pretty terribly addicted..
Watching: The Tudors. Well. I just finished watch all four seasons and I loved it so much.
Hoping: To start my own podcast with my friend. I’m a little podcast shy as there are so many out there and I don’t want to add boring noise to the mix. I want to do something GOOD!
Marvelling: At the bits of dog bed scattered about my backyard.
Cringing: At the idea of getting out from under this blanket to stir my potatoes. I’m brave though. I will do it.
Needing: To go to the shops today for coffee, bread, veggies, that kind of thing.
Questioning: People who fake it. Why do they do that? The online world seems like The Twilight Zone at the moment.
Smelling: Delicious things cooking.
Wearing: My (now very worn-out) Drake Hotline Bling sweatshirt.
Noticing: I have 45 minutes until I need to start work.
Knowing: I need to make this cake.
Trouble-shooting: A turtle. Don’t ask.
Thinking: About Katherine Hamnett.
Admiring: My friend Ruth D. She’s powering through her book-writing. (I’m taking a week off mine!)
Getting: Hungry.
Bookmarking: Real Housewives recaps. I KNOW. I am the worst.
Opening: This link about the genetic reasons for obesity – from SBS.
Closing: This link that shows us how to make GLOW costumes. So good!
Feeling: Okay.
Dreaming: Of a bright Christmas.
Hearing: Sizzling.
Celebrating: Um… being productive? That will do for this one.
Pretending: I’ve got it all together.
Embracing: Comfy pants.

Hi Pip! 🙂 I’m so happy to find your blog again, still alive! I found your post Taking Stock 004 last 2014 and I made a post myself. I thought of doing it again this year and here’s my latest stock: http://thewiselark.karlacruzado.com/2017/09/taking-stock-2.html

I am now challenged to do this every other month like what you’re doing. Of course I always refer to you every time I post. <3 Thank you for this brilliant blog post idea Pip! I'm urging others to do it too! I hope you don't mind 🙂

I would LOVE to listen to a podcast by you, Pip!

Thanks for the morning musings Pip! Now I’m thinking about Katherine Hammett too – so good she’s back. I still have a couple of original pieces; a rather revealing fire-engine red Lycra dress (body not quite up to that anymore) and a rather wonderful slogan T which says Passports for Pets in diamanté. I’m going to find that and give it another look at the world! Maybe when it’s a bit warmer in Melbourne 🙂

I don’t know what a podcast is and now I’m wondering if I can fit another thing into each day and perhaps I might just not google it in case. My life is not turning out how it’s meant to and I’m feeling cross and prickly and I don’t want to be. Maybe a podcast is an on the go thing like audiobooks ? If so maybe be i ..oh goddess now I might need to google ramble bramble again….. sigh nope garden time for me.

Yes to a podcast! My friend Erin and I have one and it’s really fun. Thanks for the hummingbird article link, how wonderful: wish I had a hummingbird feeder outside my window. As a fellow Melburnian, I totally hear you about the wintery-spring days…well and truly over the cold weather now. Last night was insane, freezing, blustery, as if it was the middle of winter! Bring us some warmth and sunshine please, weather powers-that-be. Thanks for your blog Pip. It can brighten up the wintriest of days 🙂 Isabel

I think a whole lot of us would love to hear a Pip-cast, actually ? There is a perfect Meet Me At Mikes sized gap in my podcast view! Or maybe you could do something totally different? Like a side project, with a fake name even!
