Pip-Life Taking Stock

Taking Stock: Early December

December 15, 2017
Pip & Meet Me At Mike's December 2017

Let’s do a little backward dance and think about what’s been going on, before the month whirls crazily into holiday season proper and we’re all rendered overwhelmed and (even more) tired and emotional.

Taking Stock for December

Making: Salami and Jarlsberg sandwiches.
Cooking: Stuff for Ari, mostly. And things inspired by The Sopranos.
Drinking : Iced chocolates. I have a thing for them at the moment.
Reading: Rachel’s Holiday.
Next read: Watermelon, I think.
Wanting: Lots of time for reading books.
Looking: In the letterbox. Waiting for a letter.
Playing: Podcasts. The Frankie Podcast and Bang On, too. Both are available on iTunes.
Deciding: What to cook for dinner. Salads, I think. A tomato one with red wine vinegar and basil AND a potato one with chives and olive oil, perhaps. Bloody LOVE chives. So under-rated. Maybe some cold sliced corned beef with hot English mustard, too. And lots of San Pellegrino to wash it down.
Wishing: My back was not hurting.
Enjoying: The Real Housewives of Melbourne. Oh. My. Gosh. I love it. Shut up.
Waiting: For Ari to be ready so I can drive him about, as mums are wont to do.
Liking: This breezy, warm day.
Wondering: What next year will bring.
Loving: My new car. I got a new car. I can go places. Such a relief! It’s just so bad having a very old, very wrecked, very broken car. I decided to just get a new one and it’s been very bolstering and forced me to tidy up my spending in other areas, but it’s worth it. First car I’ve ever bought myself, so there you go.
Pondering: Why I have not put up the Christmas tree. WHY? WHY? WHY?!
Considering: Making a podcast. I want to. What is stopping me? Why? again.
Buying: Christmassy things with Ari. Cute, old books for Max to read on holidays.
Watching: The Sopranos.
Next watch: Not sure … maybe Game of Thrones? Or The Americans?
Hoping: For a proper holiday. With an island and a resort. Maybe for Christmas next year.
Marvelling: At the fact that the year is almost done. What a big one it was.
Cringing: At the news, most days, but toughing it out regardless.
Needing: A new pair of Birkenstocks. Maybe these?! Yes! I really want the pink ones!!! And the yellow ones are great too! Neon 4 life!
Questioning: If I am sorted for the next month or so. Fingers crossed!
Smelling: Red chicken curry that I made for lunch earlier. I used Christine Manfield’s curry paste recipe from this quite old, but great, book, with a couple of tweaks.
Wearing: My Obus gingham dress. #controversy It’s so light and nice and I love it and wear it a lot.
Following: This delicious-looking new place. I want to go there!
Noticing: My hair has grown a lot this year. I haven’t cut it for ages.
Knowing: I want to read the Belle Gibson book and find out more.
Thinking: Of making pasta from scratch this weekend.
Admiring: Myf. She’s been doing so many good things.
Sorting: Well… not much, but I want to sort out my pantry over the Summer.
Getting: All the bills paid, which is boring but great!
Bookmarking: An article about a house Meryl Streep just bought.
Coveting: Lots of things in this BuzzFeed article. They all seem so useful!!
Disliking: Aching feet. (Ache city!)
Opening: The blinds and then closing them because it’s too sunny and birds want to come inside.
Giggling: At The Real Housewives of Melbourne.
Feeling: .. like finding a platypus in the Yarra. I really want to see one before the year is out.
Snacking: On Skittles. In the car. Oh well.
Hearing: ABC radio, birds, kids squealing in the distance, a few cars.

I hope your December is going swimmingly, petal/s.

Love to you.

Thank you so much for reading, and for all your support this year. It was a toughie, but knowing you were there meant a lot.

x Pip

Hi Pip, one vote here for your proposal to do a podcast! Really enjoyed your Frankie one and know it would be just as unique and entertaining as all the other content you produce.
The Americans is gripping TV but becomes so, so tense that for me it was an ordeal to watch! But great acting and so interesting

Oh a podcast- yes please!! But only if you have the time. I’d definitely be listening ? It was lovely to hear your interview on the Frankie podcast.
I too also love chives, but i am a bit of a garlic chive fan myself. I add them to EVERY salad and it just takes it into that delicious zone every time.
    Merry Christmas!

I think I say this every time but these aren’t favourite posts. I just love knowing what you’re up to, probably because I am the queen bee of sticky beaks but your days always sound like they are full of the very best things & I love that you are still having cheery, nice, cosy times even though this year has rocked you about.
How good are Marian Keyes books? I have The Break on my bedside table waiting untii finish my current book.
How great is Bang on?! And thanks for the reminder about the Frankie podcasts too. And for the love all things that are good for my ears MAKE A PODCAST!!! I remember those little soundcloud chats you’d do in the car while waiting for Ari to finish school, probably the first podcast I ever listened to!
And are you loving the Sopranos? Of course you are! Where are you up to? Do you know I’ve never watched the final episode?! I know how it goes down but I just can’t bring myself to watch it & we even have it on good old DVD!
    Yay for a new car!
    Myf is awesome!
I also feel like I’d like some of those things in the buzzfeed article too- that colander that clips into the pot? Genius!
Anyway, I’ll stop blabbering now. Hope that tree goes up soon & if not, well, there’s always next year right?
    Big love Pip x

Yes to chives. Yay to a new car and paying the bills and all that adult stuff.
Can’t believe how quick this year has gone or how little I have actually achieved! Sigh.
I think you absolutely should /could do a podcast. I’d love it.
May next year be easier for you
    Cheers Kate

Chives are great! Have some sitting in my fridge. I think we’ve forgotten about them – like the iceberg lettuce -whilst our eyes have been turned towards thyme and coriander and basil. We should mount a campaign to bring the back to the fore in 2018! Have a happy Christmas, Pip, and may the new year be kind to you x
