I’ve been wanting a woolly cupboard for ages. My crochet is stored in various baskets all over the living room (since I vacated my studio a few months ago.) It’s hard to see what I’ve got and things get a bit tangled up. I wanted something to store my yarn and projects in, something that would show them off a little bit too. When I saw this post over on Holly’s Decor8 about Ms Ingrid from Wood and Wool Stool (I’ve been a fan of Ingrid’s for a very long time!) my resolve grew.
THEN this pine cupboard popped up on Facebook in one of those buy and swap kind of groups, I snapped it up for just over $100. It was exactly the kind of thing I was after – big, glass doors, shelves, check!
Luckily we have a nice neighbour who was happy to help us (and by us I mean Cam) collect it within the hour.
It’s been looming about at home, all pine-y, waiting for me to give it a makeover. This weekend I did…
Recipe
One tin of Annie Sloan ‘Pure White’ Chalk Paint™
One tin of Annie Sloan Soft Wax – ‘Clear’
One can of cheap pink neon spray paint – we got ours at Bunnings for $8
A paintbrush and a clean cloth to apply the wax
Good quality painters’ masking tape
+ First, I taped up the edges of the glass so that they didn’t end up all painted on.
+ I also removed the doorknobs and taped over the hinges.
+ Next, I painted two coats of the Pure White straight onto the pine cupboard.
+ Outside, I spray painted the knobs with two coats of the neon paint. (This takes one minute but it’s best to do it out-of-doors!)
+ Wait for the paint to dry. Remove the tape.
+ Apply the wax with a clean cloth, gently working it in.
+ Screw the knobs back on and ta-dah! So long pine!
+ Fill the (now white) Woolly Wayward Pine cupboard with colourful things.
While I was waiting for the paint to dry I watched Wayward Pines. Have you seen it? It’s really great. I am LOVING it. Also… Matt Dillon! (And Uncle Andy from Weeds!) What could be better?
How cute does my cupboard look?! I’m in love with it, basically.
Other cute projects using Chalk Paint™

+ Paint A Herringbone Floor Mat

It looks amazing! And all those crochet blankets are to die for! I only learnt at Xmas but am half way through two blankets, I need to crack on so I can start putting in cupboards like that!
It’s always such a good finish with Annie Sloan paint. It’s expensive but worth every drop I think!
I can’t believe all those lovely finished rugs in there- just awesome!
Pip,
I adore it and am utterly jealous!

Love your work!
You are a doll! I am loving this fun partnership! 🙂
Hello! Just checking whether one + four was still going?
You can do it – but I keep running out of time to do it here! x
It looks great! I especially love the hot pink handles. And your wooly cupboard makes me smile with it’s bright wooly ways!
wow – I can’t believe how different it looks! The white is so lovely to show off your deliciously colourful yarny goodness. I would love a cupboard like this for my yarn (which is totally in baskets all around MY living room!). x
It turned out so cute! And I can update the handle colours as I please, too! I’m pretty impressed with myself, basically! x
I have been using Annie Sloan paint this weekend too. Painting my kitchen chairs using Provence. My next one will be Antoinette. Love the cupboard Pip, all crafters need a cupboard like that.
It’s so nice to paint with, isn’t it? xxx
Pip, this is so lovely!! I have yarn storage envy right now 🙂
Looks great, Pip. What does the wax do?
The wax seals it nicely and gives it a slight sheen as the paint is quite flat. Thank you for the nice compliment, too! x
Looks beautiful x
Thank so much Michelle! xx
Great work Pip,
I have exactly the same cabinet. I use it as a book case for my rarer and more treasured books and also the little trinkets I’ve collected over the years.
I must say it looks splendid in white and the coloured little knobs are the perfect accent.
Hows your husbands back? Its one of the heaviest pieces of furniture I own.
Cheerio,
Patrick
haha! YES! So heavy. All is well in the back department. How funny that we have the alter-ego to your cabinet! SNAP! x
