I’ve been wanting a woolly cupboard for ages. My crochet is stored in various baskets all over the living room (since I vacated my studio a few months ago.) It’s hard to see what I’ve got and things get a bit tangled up. I wanted something to store my yarn and projects in, something that would show them off a little bit too. When I saw this post over on Holly’s Decor8 about Ms Ingrid from Wood and Wool Stool (I’ve been a fan of Ingrid’s for a very long time!) my resolve grew.
THEN this pine cupboard popped up on Facebook in one of those buy and swap kind of groups, I snapped it up for just over $100. It was exactly the kind of thing I was after – big, glass doors, shelves, check!
Luckily we have a nice neighbour who was happy to help us (and by us I mean Cam) collect it within the hour.
It’s been looming about at home, all pine-y, waiting for me to give it a makeover. This weekend I did…
One tin of Annie Sloan ‘Pure White’ Chalk Paint™
One tin of Annie Sloan Soft Wax – ‘Clear’
One can of cheap pink neon spray paint – we got ours at Bunnings for $8
A paintbrush and a clean cloth to apply the wax
Good quality painters’ masking tape
+ First, I taped up the edges of the glass so that they didn’t end up all painted on.
+ I also removed the doorknobs and taped over the hinges.
+ Next, I painted two coats of the Pure White straight onto the pine cupboard.
+ Outside, I spray painted the knobs with two coats of the neon paint. (This takes one minute but it’s best to do it out-of-doors!)
+ Wait for the paint to dry. Remove the tape.
+ Apply the wax with a clean cloth, gently working it in.
+ Screw the knobs back on and ta-dah! So long pine!
+ Fill the (now white) Woolly Wayward Pine cupboard with colourful things.
While I was waiting for the paint to dry I watched Wayward Pines. Have you seen it? It’s really great. I am LOVING it. Also… Matt Dillon! (And Uncle Andy from Weeds!) What could be better?
How cute does my cupboard look?! I’m in love with it, basically.
