Do you know what Ari said to me? He said I should stop watching shows like Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy. He thinks they don’t suit me and aren’t for people like me. Hm.
I totally get where he’s coming from. I guess it seems kind of out of left field for a crafty, florally, cloggy person to also enjoy a bit of guns and ammo with their tea, in some ways. It makes sense to me though. These shows seem more like an epic story than straight up and down violence. There’s something theatrical, epic and unreal (in the make-believe sense of the word!) about BB and SoA that makes me love them and keeps the scary bits at arm’s length for me.
I’m sure that as Ari gets older he’ll realise more and more that people are full of contradictions and surprises, and that that’s okay (and in fact kind of cool because it keeps you on the edge of your seat!) I’m sure as I get older I’ll settle into this idea of ‘mixed up’ people more too. I am still learning about it as I type.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we should pigeonhole people. Not at all. What I am saying is that sometimes people surprise you. You think you know all the things about them and then BAM! They show you a whole new thing! Also, despite what some say, people can change, so today’s new thing might be yesterday’s no go. I really like that too. I’m all for change.
I was wondering a bit about YOU…! Are you all for change? Do you have interesting contradictions? Anything surprising and BAM-like?! Things people don’t expect you to like that you do? I’m not just talking about television shows, but other things too. Maybe you have hobbies that surprise people? Or a family arrangement that people don’t expect? What are your contradictions?
PS: Please no Sons of Anarchy spoilers! I am only up to Season 4!
PPS: I love the character of Gemma Teller Morrow. She’s like the anti Brene Browne!
Vulnerability is a liability. No place for it in this life. Gemma Teller Morrow
I get it now. God wants me to be a fierce mother. That’s my path. Gemma Teller Morrow
PPPS: If you hate seeing violence and sexism played out on the screen, do not watch SoA!
