A Good Thing To Be Part Of: It’s In The Bag

November 21, 2016
It's in the bag - little drawstring bag

Share The Dignity is a project initiated by Rochelle Courteney and made possible by her staff and a band of brilliant volunteers. Rochelle is one of those gems who saw something crap happening and decided to do something about it, instead of just saying ‘oh dear’ and getting on with her life. She made fixing the crap thing a part of her life.

The Rochelle-sparked initiative Share The Dignity collects and distributes sanitary pads and tampons to women who are experiencing hardship. Then, from November 19th to December 3rd, their broader personal care Share The Dignity campaign It’s In The Bag is GO!

It’s In The Bag asks people like us to donate a handbag (a gently used one we don’t use anymore is fine!) stocked with personal care items to women in need via one of their collection points.

You can see the kinds of things that are donate-able and useful here.  They might include:

Pads, tampons, baby wipes, cleansing wipes, tissues, deodorants, perfume, soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair ties, hair brush, sunscreen, lotion, rain poncho, scarf, jewellery, book, stationery, stamps, gift voucher, movie voucher, meal voucher, socks, undies. Note that these things should all be unused and brand new.

Find out where to donate your It’s In The Bag kit, once you’ve gathered all the treats, here.

Perhaps, just before you start thinking about letting the festive/holiday season take over life, you might have the time and inclination to to take part? I am going to, for sure. I have a few bags I don’t need and I am going to start collecting useful girly things from this very day.

You could do this with a few girlfriends? All chip in on one bag? Or do one each. Whatever you fancy. You will know what is best for you.

What a brilliant idea, brilliantly executed, Rochelle (and team!)

PS: Don’t forget you can help with our Softies For Mirabel toy and treats drive if you want to, too!
