Play And Record

Lately, when I get up in the morning, I turn on my favourite radio show. I turn on the heater. I make a cup of tea. Then I write my morning pages. It’s a pretty great way to start the day. Sometimes I throw a crumpet in there for good measure. Some vitamins, even.

My favourite radio show plays some great stuff, partly thanks to one of my extra favourite people who is part of their team.  And partly thanks to another ace radio lady, too. (Not sure about the other third guy they’ve got going on there, because he forgets cats’ names.)

Cats aside, here are three tracks that I’ve been really liking, with thanks to The Breakfasters (and a bonus track I remembered/loved thanks to the TV show Enlightened – for my Mum.) Maybe you will like them too?

And this is the Mum one…

We’ve really come a long way since the days of pressing play and record on your cassette player when a good song came on the radio, haven’t we? Now you just check out the playlist on the radio station’s website and find the track on YouTube. Further, you don’t get the end of the ad for the local carpet shop or the ‘DJ’s’ voice top and tailing your song. It’s really quite sad.

And yet not. It’s actually great. What am I even talking about?! I’m just being a nostalgic twit. And taping stuff off the radio is apparently illegal. Let’s not forget that… Whoops. Nothing. Whistles. #criminal

Gosh. That reminds me. Do you remember when we used to do Mixtape Monday before the mixtape sites kind of got outlawed because of copyright? That was really fun.  I miss Mixtape Monday.

What have you been listening to lately? What would you put on your mix-tape now? I’d love to know!

I love that Maccabees song! It’s one of mycurrent faves. Thanks for introducing me to Courtney Barnett, I’ve become a bit obsessed with her now – Such a great distinctive style!

I am bit of a theme girl and am thinking about my dream version of Paris so I am creating a soundtrack – starting with the 60s girl singers: Sylive Vartan, Brigitte Bardot, Francoise Hardy, moving to through to the 80s, and a young Vanessa Paradis, finishing with LadyHawke’s “Paris is Burning”. I know LadyHawke is not French but the song ends the compilation well.

Oooooh, good choices. I love Courtney. If you want to listen to something bee-yoo-ti-ful, try the album “darling arithmetic’ by Irish band, Villagers.
And for some über cool toonz, I’m loving unknown mortal orchestras new album, and Ghostpoet’s new album too (I should be more track-specific, but it’s all about the albums ????)

ha ha, my mum used to thrash Julie Covington when I was little. I think she liked her on Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds LP. I can still remember getting a boom box that would tape off the radio for my birthday at high school. Mixtape heaven!
