Princess Magazine March 19th 1960 We found treasure! We tripped off to Ballarat today to see the lovely Marion at Country Mouse! Ohhh she has the most delicious cup-cakes ever and such a lovely little shop and cafe! Hooray hooray.. today was a day of packing lots of lovely things into cello-bags lined with confetti, birthday candles and cocktail umbrellas. Favourites of the day were 1970s Enid Blyton books, 1960s Little Golden Books, Pocket Mirrors from Lark, remodelled vintage dresses from Anna & Joachim, birdy whistles that you fill up with water and warble-arble, wind-up dinosaurs, handmade resin badges by Julia from Sing and lots of annuals (from Baretta to Debbie 1973!)… such a lovely Mikes Xmassy Day!…
Oh joy of joys! Today we came over all lovely and Christmassy! We found some big bags of old Christmas Bon-bons from the early 70s (maybe) at the op-shop. They were pretty foil wrapped treats – with little pussy cats wearing sweet outfits glued to the outside. We popped all but one – inside were tiny little plastic toys – whistles, monkeys, elephants, a bird hatching from a little egg, motorbikes and a ring with a little lavender coloured stone……
oh my goodness.. it is nearly christmas! in all the stocking up and confetti-ing and collaging and sparkling… i forgot about christmassing my own house! paper chains would be good i think. and some bunting (!) and some felt stockings to hang on the nonexistant mantlepiece. and lots of fairy lights around the bathroom cabinet so i can have a bath and see them sparkle-arkle. molly and i were chatting today about when you are five or six years old..…
Yesterday at Mikes we threw handfuls of 100s and 1000s on the footpath in front of the shop. When people walked past, they heard the teeny tiny crunch.. and they looked down and smiled. It was a good day. I think that the rain washed them down the drain and out into the lovely multi-coloured bay. Jess visited today and I tried to stack all the swap cards in their pink box, neatly in two piles with the best ones…
