Hello

The Other Sowing…

April 15, 2009

What Shall I Put book, originally uploaded by bewitchedmagic.

Seeds. I’m going to put some more seeds in today. Wintery things, of course, like peas. I must go and get that book from the library that tells you what to plant each month.

The guerilla garden out the back is popping up cucumbers like you wouldn’t believe. AND they gave me the cucumber seedlings for FREE at the nursery last time I was there. So that’s pretty great. They thought they were on their last legs – but no, they are cucumbering all over the place! Hurrah for cucumbers!

Are you planting things?

xx Pip

Cucumbers are the plant that keeps on giving! A horticulture (haughty-culture?) friend of mine was all like “Don’t plant them, you won’t get any; do zukes instead” and WE SHOWED HIM! I reckon we get at least one, if not two, big cukes a week. Hurrah!

Yes, I’m planting things! From seed – for the very first time! Just bought a packet of salad leave seeds, which is very timely for planting now in the UK. Am thinking of growing them in tin cans with holes in the bottom of drainage. xx

I am trying to self seed my current plants, it’s an art form in itself!

I really want to grown some peas and spinach, but the Person Who Does The Watering said he needs a season off 🙁

Maybe I should just do a leeeeetle garden bed …

Went a bit mad at Diggers recently buying seeds and have planted snow peas, purple podded peas, green feast peas and sweet peas “Persian mix” – most are about 30cm tall already. Plus a “winter greens” garden bed of lettuce, rainbow silverbeet and spinach. Love growing winter vegies here!

    Hurrah, cucumbers, hurrah!

I’m not growing anything. Maybe I could put some pots on the balcony and hope for the best. I have successfully singed lettuces out there so maybe something a but more robust.

Ooh yes planting seeds here too. Peas, kale, spinach and garlic all – good winter crops.

You are clever growing cucumbers, I’d love to try next year, my little ones love them.

I sewed some chilli seeds today – a little bit late mind you, i meant to do it a few weeks ago but finally i remembered today. Hopefully they’ll still do okay. There were three varieties: anaheim, joe’s long and twilight (my favourite). The twilight chillis are so cute as they’re tiny and multicoloured, can’t wait for them to appear!

Aaah homegrown food! I’ve got tubs full of Asian greens, tomatoes and herbs on the balcony. Sadly the possums ate the bok choy. At least they are getting plenty of iron and folate in their diets.
