crochet for deefbeastspostcards bwp beauties

This week in One + Four = Life…

one: a tumble of blanket: after resting my sore wrist for over a week, I am finally back to crocheting! I’m not sure why it got so sore, but it’s something to do with holding the yarn tension and switching from making little granny square to pulling it all together (with a bit more yarn/project weight on my wrist as I do that!)

two: a beast or two:  If you’ve visited Melbourne Museum you probably love this exhibit as much as I do. The light in this room is terrible though… a bit yellowy and glarey. Why do you think they light things like that in museums? Is it something to do with creating a mood? Or is it to do with the lighting options available? I do not know…

three: postcards: I have a box of these vintage Puffin Book postcards and I like sending them to people. Mostly I write all across the back and slip them into an envelope. They are perfect for a quick, nostalgic hello.

four: cute people: on Sunday I met up with some other bloggers (my Blog With Pip students, actually!) at the aforementioned Museum. They are such a sweet, clever, gentle bunch of girls. We had a lovely time and I felt so much better about everything afterwards. Good people can restore you, don’t you think?!

More on One + Four = Life

Are you joining in with this cute new thing? The idea is that each week you choose four images to sum up the week, and you publish them on your blog or Instagram or Facebook. If you’d like to share them with other One + Four = Life participants, you can add yourself to the One + Four = Life list (published each Sunday on my blog – here’s Week One if you would like to join in!)

See you back here very soon!
Thanks so much for reading my blog today!

    Hi Pip.

I love the museum and the WILD exhibit ( I think that’s what it’s called) too! I think sometimes dead animals can be really creepy and it’s sad- but that look so alive in in the museum, so lifelike and proud.
I’m not sure why they use such strange lighting in museums. Perhaps it’s to do with the maintenance of the taxidermy. I don’t know. Still, there’s nothing that I hate more than a poorly lit gallery where you can’t even see the displays! AHHH!

I really love your blankets- I think they’re beautiful. I have a few questions, if you wouldn’t mind answering them for me.
    1. What type of yarn do you use?
    2. What technique to you use to join the squares?
    and more importantly:
    3. HOW do you choose such nice colour combinations and how should I achieve the gorgeous scattered randomness that you have…
    and finally
    4. I’m really worried that I won’t have the stamina to make a whole blanket- how do you stay on track and keep crocheting. Do you ever lose interest in your projects?

    That’s all! Happy Easter,
    Nieve

Do you know what Pip? I think being told that we are restorative is one of the best compliments I’ve ever had!

I am totally going to do 1+4=Life. 4 photos a week is such a nice number.

Gosh you come up with very clever ideas. Smart cookie you.

So great to meet you yesterday, along with all the other super gals.

    xx Kate

Don’t you think it was restorative? I really did. It warmed my heart to hang out with no competitive under-currents or weirdness. It was just the best! So nice to hang out with YOU, Kate! x

I agree Pip, good people can certainly restore you. What a lovely week you had:)

Hi Pip! Helen is right, the ugly lighting is to keep the exhibits from damage…I worked at Melbourne Museum for a couple of years. It was a great part-time job which mostly involved finding lost kids, telling people where the loos were, and answering the question ‘Excuse me, where can we find Phar Lap?’ My favourite place to work was always in the forest gallery (can you believe they have a living forest in that small space, complete with bower birds? Amazing) x

I often wondered what it was like to work at the Museum… And the Forest Gallery is beautiful, isn’t it? We messed about in there for quite a while on Sunday. I love the frogs! x

I love this idea Pip. I think I can manage 4 photos, certainly less pressure than 7! Of course I had to post about the bloggers meet up, and actually that took up all four photos for this week (and a sneaky rebel ps photo too). What a lovely day it was. https://squiggleandswirl.wordpress.com/2015/03/30/one-four-life/

Four photos seems manageable, doesn’t it? AND it might encourage us to take more photos (but without TOO much pressure i.e. photos every day!) Thanks for sharing your post!! x

Just wanted to say ‘thanks’ for this 1+4 idea….it’s *so great*! I’ve found some lovely new-to-me blogs, already, from the first link-up and am so excited about joining in with this! Thank you! [P.S. The light is like that in Museums so the exhibits aren’t damaged…all environmental conditions (light, humidity etc) have to be strictly controlled to minimise damage to the specimens]

I am VERY tempted to have that lighting installed in my house! 😉

Ah of course! Here I am selfishly looking at this from my own slightly-challenged-skillwise photographer’s point of view, but that makes perfect sense and OF COURSE they should look after all the special things!
