My I Spy: Something Beginning With ‘A’

August 9, 2016

In the old days of blogging, people used to play cute games and link to each other. Instagram and hashtags have kind of blown the whole blog game thing out of the water, but I have been known to hang on to traditions with the kind of fervour usually only seen in rodeo riders as they clutch their bouncy horses.* (Gratuitous McLeod’s Daughters reference.)

In short, I want to play a game.

My I Spy Rules

Well. I hate freaking people out with rules, so THERE ARE NO RULES!
There are, however, some loose guidelines.
Firstly, you need to spot things and notice words that begin with the letter of the week.
You can write them down, tally them up, draw them, write about them, do whatever the heck you want with them.
You can use a dictionary or what have you to assist your I Spy-ing, if that’s helpful.
And maybe you could share them on your blog or Facebook or Instagram (if you want me to see, tag me or comment below!)

Here are some a’s from around my place. (That can rhyme if you talk with a strange accent or slur a bit…!)

abba the album

A is for ABBA

My first ever album was ABBA Arrival. This one – Abba. The Album – was my second.

I loved Agnetha the most and thought her and Bjorn were the best couple by far. I didn’t really understand where Benny and Anni-Frid were coming from at all. I think it was the beard/perm combo. I was more judgemental when I was 8, I’ll admit…

Mostly I wished I had those outfits with the cats on them. (Even though the belts spoilt the look a bit.)

A is for art

This is a print that our friend Ghostpatrol made. I think it’s beautiful. When I went to photograph it in its frame, I realised that a family of spiders had moved in behind the glass. So here it is sans frame and sans spiders too.

I don’t even KNOW how spiders breed, but I’m guessing it’s via telekinesis or something like that.

Note to self: new frame, hold the spiders.

When I was a kid, these books were littered around our house and beach shack. We were always going beach-combing or looking under rocks. Then we’d come home and look in the book to make sure the things we’d seen existed.

We didn’t have smartphones then, so we’d either have to TAKE the thing from where we found it. Very quickly. In a bucket. (And then return it once we were sure it was a recognised and documented thing.)

OR we’d have to stare at it for a long time, remembering every detail and then run back to check the book. For some reason we never thought to take a pen and paper and DRAW the thing that existed. If I had my time over, I’d do that.

Anyway, I’m slowly collecting these books again. There’s something comforting about having them around.

Aw nice. Sometimes the simplest things can shake up the nicest memories. I’m TOTALLY on the lookout for A things this week.

Let me know if you play too? If not, I’ll just be here… alphabetting on my own each week.

I’m gonna start posting on this theme from Sep 28. I’m having a one week digital break before that, and then I will return to with a vengeance on inst @atman.art.studio feeding through to twitter @atmanartstudio. This is gonna be fun!

Oh this is so fun! I am totally playing! I miss those old blog games…and linkup parties…and ah, those were the good old days! One of my earliest memories (I was about 4) is of an ABBA shoe box that lived in my closet. I kept my Fisher Price little people in it and I LOVED that box because on it were the two letters of the alphabet that I was very sure about. Now that I am old enough to know what ABBA actually is….I wonder about the shoes that came in the box. I bet they were awesome. Not that you asked about the box that used to be in my closet, just thought I’d share lol! 😉

I discovered you through Dos Family and find this so refreshing and fun!! Just last night my daughters were playing the game during dinner. It’s almost tradition when we eat outside. That same day my youngest had a little pool party before school starts again. She wanted music and has her own playlist. Aside from her papa’s band and a few others, it was mainly ABBA that was blasting through the speakers! 🙂 She loves them.

All this to say, I loved your selection! I need to join in (all the way from Gatineau, Canada).
Hopefully this will get the creative juices going.
