1998

Found via Nikkishell… who found it on Amelia‘s blog

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?
Ten years ago my eldest son was a nearly two year old… Rin was ten and Ari was a mere twinkle in the eye of his parents. I spent my time looking after the kids, cooking elaborate dinners for us all, doing some freelance writing on the side for a couple of supermarket magazines and baking bread every day. I remember reading in one of Sheila Kitzinger’s books.. that all new mothers should bake bread.. as it made the house smell nice, required little effort and made you feel (as you sat amongst the piles of to-be-done washing) that if nothing else, you’d made bread today! It worked for me!

In 1998 we co-owned two Stussy franchises (one on Bridge Road and one on Greville Street) and were selling lots of T-Shirts and Skate Decks and stuff like that. We were hip, ya know?! I spent a lot of time getting our Indie t-shirt label on shows like ‘Neighbours’ and ‘Home and Away’… umm.. that’s not that hip, is it?!

I wanted to write children’s books and was working with a nice illustrator – but we never really got it off the ground. I also wanted to start a shop selling beautifully decorated biscuits.

And we got to go on holidays too.. to places like Yamba and Wilson’s Prom. Days were varied… full of long walks with the pram, cupcake baking and lying on blankets in the back garden. Noice.

2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today- not in any particular order?
Listen to BBC radio online (this radio show which features Yarnstorm, apparently) – (edit – actually THIS is the link…for the Yarnstorm interview – it’s from 2007) finish making those tissue covers (25 to go!), take some photos of the clean parts of my house, crochet two granny squares, do some foodie shopping (I want to make this)

3. Snacks I enjoy.
Brie and Semi-Dried Tomatoes on Crusty Bread
Homemade Guacamole
Chocolate Fondue at Max Brenner
Brandade on sourdough bread
Corn chips with brie and salsa
Potato and Onion Tortilla (in a baguette for carb-on-carb delight!)
Pistachios
Marinated mushrooms with little toothpick flags in ’em
Bloody Marys (is that a snack? it tastes very snacky to me)

4. Places I’ve lived
Hobart, Melbourne, Hobart, Port Hedland, Canberra and Melbourne – in that order… I’ve also been known to live in a little bubble of blogging niceness… which I must endeavour to burst out of sometime…. Maybe.

5. Things I would do if I were a billionaire
Jump up and down. Pay all my bills! Once I’d done that – I’d invest most of it – donate some to The Mirabel Foundation, buy a shack down the beach… and buy our building so I didn’t have to worry about paying the rent all the time. Then make a long list of people I wanted to share it with and get going on that.

6. What are some jobs you’ve had
Video store employee, Checkout Chick, Babysitter, Public Servant, Function Co-ordinator, Cook, Caterer, Personal Chef, Writer, Blogger, Marketing Assistant, Shop Assistant, Cafe Owner, Waitress, Shop Keeper…

Let me know if you do this too! You can find the rules via Amelia… via someone else..

xx Mikes

I’m sure Bloody Mary’s fall into a food group, especially with a dash of celery. I also had fun remembering ten years on.

Dude, they are some fine photos, I love your Puma suedes! I had them in green, also in blue with yellow, I wonder where they are now? Also love RIn’s toothy smile, that must be such an awkward stage, I remember my lil sis had some serious tombstone teeth to replace her petite baby teeth – not fair!!
