Misappropriated Quizzing: Episode 1: Pop Culture

February 2, 2017

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, so I am doing it.

I’m going to publish interesting and stupid quiz questions I’ve found in old magazines, online and the like. One blank quiz for you to copy and paste. One filled in version of same quiz, by me. The blank one will be first, so you don’t have to find out all the things about me, if you don’t want to.

Today, I found a quiz/interview that Roxane Gay had done for Entertainment Weekly.

I was googling her after watching this, where she seemed interesting, excellently obsessed with pulp TV (like me!) and a little bit tired (it was apparently her last interview in Australia, so FAIR ENOUGH!)

Here’s the quiz I’ve misappropriated (I have edited it a bit, to suit most people and avoid getting sued.)

Granted some of the Q&As I featured could be perceived as interviews, sometimes, but let’s call them quizzes. Because… conceptual. Okay. Cool.

Misappropriated quizzing!

Below is the blank quiz, for you. And if you scroll past that, you’ll find my responses to the quiz. But don’t feel that you need to read ’em. Maybe you just want to read about Roxane, or do your own? Totally fine. Go you.

My favourite book as a child: On The Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder

A book, movie or TV show I’ve read or watched over and over again: The movie Elf. I love that film. I love Buddy the Elf. Or Amelie. Yes.

A classic I’ve never read, but want to: War and Peace

A book I read in secret as a kid: Go Ask Alice

A book that people might be surprised to learn that I loved: I honestly don’t know. I don’t know what people think of me!

A book that made me laugh out loud: Man At The Helm by Nina Stibbe

A book that made me cry: I don’t know!! Maybe A Year of Magical Thinking?

My fictional character crush: George from The Famous Five

My literary crush: Joan Didion. She is nothing like me, but I love reading about her writer’s life.

Who’d play me in a movie: This one has a big EGO sign flashing over it. I feel weird answering it. Maybe Lauren Child can DRAW me and I could be animated? That would be good. That’s my answer.

My favourite under-rated TV show: Poh’s cooking shows. I bloody love them. They should be on in every lounge-room across the globe. Not even kidding. Love Poh.

The last TV series I binged: Gossip Girl. I love it. So bad. So good.

My guilty pleasure TV show: Real Housewives and Ladies of London, of course.

My all-time favourite film: I still really adore Steel Magnolias.

The last book I gave as a present: I can’t remember because I haven’t been book-presenting very much of late.

The book I would use to squish a bug: Maybe a street directory from 1973?

The song that always makes me feel better: The You Remind Me of the Babe one from Labyrinth.

The last album or playlist I listened to: A Gossip Girl one on Spotify

The first album I bought with my own money: Duran Duran’s Rio, I think.

The first (memorable) film I saw: Picnic at Hanging Rock. I still love that film.

The song people may be surprised I know all the words to: Shy Boy? By Bananarama? I mean, not really surprising, right?

The song that reminds me of my first crush: It’s probably some stoner music like Tangerine Dream

The first book I bought with my own money: A Sweet Dreams romance, probably. From the newsagent.

The fictional character I’d want on my side in a zombie apocalypse: Gemma Teller Morrow from Sons of Anarchy

Dream dinner party guest list? Lily Bret, Joan Didion, Grayson Perry, Nina Stibbe, my favourite pals, Bethany Frankel, Erika Jane, Sia. Gosh. I could go on and on. So many people!

The movie or film I’d fit right into: Pretty In Pink

The book I’m reading now: Only in New York by Lily Brett

Happy quizzing, lovers!

Great quiz – I was a total book worm so some of these Q’s are right up my alley.
My first fictional character crush was Julian from The Famous Five – I think it was his big brother, take charge personality. I’m the eldest of four and think I secretly wanted to have older siblings to be the responsible ones instead of me.

Oh he was a brick, wasn’t he? A brave, good guy! x

Amazing how many of your answers match mine. I was secretly in love with Dominic Guard in Picnic at Hanging Rock. I was quite jealous of Irma.. ha ha! Did you read the sequel that solved the mystery?.. I did but I don’t think it was memorable, as I cant recall it. Thank you for sharing this quiz and taking me down memory lane
