Just noodling along like it’s nobody’s business

February 20, 2019

Hello peaches! How are things? I have been kinda busy with work and writing my book. My deadline is a month away now, so it has been hard to find the time to do all the things I want, but I am most certainly trying my best! I am quite behind on a few things if I’m completely honest … but not on my book at least!

Once my book is handed in I will have lots more time and blogging will resume as usual, but for now I am liking watching the book grown and talking about hard and also helpful things in there. In the end, I most want to help people feel okay and less like the only weirdo in the village, so this book is (hopefully!) going to do that!

Also? The days are getting a little cooler now! You know … the sort where it’s sunny but a bit crisp in the evening? I love those days the most. They are autumnal, right? And Autumn is my favourite time of the year. I think it’s because I was born in Autumn. Do you think that is the case for everyone? That they’re most into the season that they were …. well … born into?! I am not sure, but for me it is most certainly true.

Ari and I have been obsessively eating salami and Jarlsberg rolls of late. We might be keeping the salami and Jarlsberg farmers in business, I think. The roll must be soft and white and it must have lots of black pepper and a sprinkling of salt. Butter for Ari. Sriracha for me. Jarlsberg’s so sort of perfume-y and sweet, isn’t it? There’s something about it with salami that feels like the perfect match to me. (Sorry vegetarians! Argh!)

I have been doing a little bit of crochet, but the big blanket I made at the end of last year kind of wore me out a bit, so I am taking it slow with new things. I also think that Summery days are not really the best for woolly hobbies, so there is that too.

I have watched a few things that I have been liking or not being able to tear my eyes away from. Isn’t it weird that we watch things that sometimes make us feel a bit sick? I am thinking of Dirty John and Abducted in Plain Sight. Gulp. Could not stop watching. Could not stop feeling sick. Why do we do this to ourselves?!

I have also been watching the super wholesome The Fosters on Stan. I have never watched it before and it’s very sweet and a welcome salve when there seems to be tough news all around.

I’m reading a book by Jonny Benjamin at the moment – it’s sad and important and I’m getting a lot out of it. It’s called The Stranger on the Bridge.

And podcast wise, in case you were wondering, I have been listening to How To Fail with Elizabeth Day, Happy Place, Bang On and Katie Piper’s Extraordinary People.

I haven’t been listening to The High Low as much because they always seem to be having holidays and unreleased reading books and I was feeling QUITE jealous what with me not having holidays and hardly having time to read ! LOL! I am the worst, aren’t I?!

A few other things I’ve been liking are:

  • Very, very cold riesling – popped in the freezer until it’s almost too late.
  • Hugs with my dog.
  • Reading about curiosity.
  • Watching this hilariously slow show dog.
  • Finding out about animals and how they think and behave.

Mee Goreng Mee GorengSoba Salad

What have I been cooking?

Apart from the rolls, which is hardly cooking … Let me see.

I made these meatballs and they were yum. Turned out brilliantly (I halved the recipe.) I used them to make meatball subs and then had them the next day with crusty bread.

I have been making a LOT of Mee Goreng – in vegetarian and non-vegetarian form. It’s comforting and a bit spicy and full of different textures and flavours, Just my cup of noodle-y tea! Sometimes I make it with chicken AND tofu. Other times just tofu. And sometimes with fishcake too – on the side if there are vegetarians over which there sometimes are.

I made an ace Soba Salad too which is dead easy and super yum. You can find that recipe here. It’s the bottom picture above, in case you were wondering.

Gosh that’s a lot of noodles, isn’t it?! Guess what I’m making for dinner tonight?!

PS : Actually sorry this was a bit of a ramble … but maybe there are some useful things in here for you?!

Hi Pip – lots of interesting things in your post but Winky is my favourite! I particularly loved the way Winky paused at the top of the high barriers to acknowledge the audience. Go Winky – but at your own moderate pace….

Thanks for your post! That slow puppy brought a smile to my face 🙂 I was born in the middle of winter and it’s not really my favourite, I like autumn too 🙂 Looking forward to your book!
