Gilmore Girls A Year In The Life

Probably you’ve missed me. I know, I know. I’ve been hunkered down doing a LOT of writing and a lot of reading and watching the new Gilmore Girls over and over.

I’m one of the people who loved Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. I know a lot of people didn’t, but I am not one of those. Loved it = me. If you didn’t like it, I fully respect that. But like it I did. So that’s me.

I’ve been obsessively reading the Gilmore Girls forum on Reddit and marvelling at how people can watch the very same show and read such different things into it.

“Lorelai is made because of her experience with her family, and Emily is Emily because Lorelai left. That added a layer of conflict that allows you to do the comedy, but at the base of it, it’s almost a tragedy,” Gilmore Girls co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said.

Not that I see the ending as a tragedy… Because if that’s the worst thing that could happen, people need to get a grip.

Some people are saying that Rory and Lorelai were a bit non-great in the latest four eps, but they’ve always been very, very flawed, in my opinion. Always messing things up and triumphing. Being smart and stupid. Kind of like real people.

“Girl power in my mind is to let girls be exactly what they are. Let them be angry. Let them be resentful. And rebellious. Let them be hard and soft and loving and sad and silly. Let them be wrong. Let them be right. Let them be everything. because, they are everything.” Amy Sherman-Palladino

I love it that Rory and Lorelai are so very everything.

I’m not trying to change anybody’s mind. I am more saying, this is part of why I loved it and felt it made sense. (There are lots of other reasons and so much more to say, but I won’t bore you! I am excited that it seems they’ve left the door open for future eps and that the cast and creators are hinting at that too!)

Apart from GG-ing, we’ve been having a bit of a turkey dinner type thing with a US pal at our house.  That was pretty delicious and also hanging out all day making snacks and chatting was pretty nice. Things are normally so busy and finite, it was super nice to slow things down and just have some unscheduled, unpressured friendly time.

I’ve been listening to Desert Island Discs (the one about Emma Bridgewater) and reading her book too.

I’ve been thinking about going to Brunetti and having one of those zabaglione filled pastries with the sugar sprinkles on the top. I’ve been thinking a lot about sushi too.

And I’ve been planning some stuff for next year, as is very often the case as the year begins to draw to an end.

Rin and I have planned our Christmas menu (we floated the idea of eating out, but so far the answer is no!)

And I’ve been eating a lot of scrambled eggs on toast and drinking a lot of coffee.

That’s pretty much it at the moment. I’ll be back with some cute Christmas or the Heck of it ideas very soon!

Love to you!

I agree with you about Lorelai and Rory, and I loved the four eps (except for the the Stars Hollow Musical bit, that just dragged on and was terrible). The attraction of the Gilmores for me is how flawed and authentic they are. I hope they make no more episodes. Those four were fitting closure for me.

I am so sure they will make more… because FANS… But I am happy with this ‘finish’ too! Yes! x

I loved it, too. Didn’t love episode 3 as everyone was annoying but thought the last episode was great.

I’m on the I loved it team too. I thought it was so great, even if they don’t make more episodes, but if they did decide to make more I would be all over it!

I’m ashamed to say that I have never seen an episode. I tend to only watch one show at a time and at the moment it’s Westworld. Which I’m fairly sure is the antithesis to GG. Might see if I can catch up over the holidays (which I intend on actually having). Always good to read what you are up to lovely lady.

Going off on a tangent, when did you start eating sugar again Pip? I just read Craft for the Soul and saw that you’d given it up and I’m wondering how long you lasted? Only asking because I gave it up six months ago and it’s still very hard (dreading the Christmas dinners/desserts). Sorry, don’t watch GG at all, perhaps because I’m not a mum and can’t relate.

I can’t remember how long I went off it for… maybe a year or so? Now it’s all in moderation for me. I don’t really have a sweet tooth – maybe cake once every month, kinda thing…?

PS – Craft for the Soul was written in 2014/2015, so it’s a while ago! x

I haven’t watched the Gilmore girls in years. I might have to pick up the memory blanket I am knitting and watch a bit of telly.

you know I’ve never seen any Gilmour Girls, but it’s popping up everywhere I go on the interwebs lately. Maybe I should take it as a sign and start at the beginning.

I agree with you 100% on the wonderful Gilmore Girls. Love.

I agree with you. I enjoyed the 4 episodes. And I always wanted to be Loralei, the cool mom. But folks, it’s a show. And I love the fact it leaves it open for more episodes. Sit back, knit or crochet, and don’t obsess over it.
