:: Jackie…

June 17, 2011

Did you watch The Kennedys yet? I really enjoyed it. I want to know more about Jackie and Bobby… There is a book, but it might be a load of fabricated, money making spin. Or it might be true. I don’t know. What do you know about the widow Kennedy and her brother in law? Not that I want to gossip… But I find it fascinating.

Jackie had such a difficult marriage and such sad things happened in her life. No wonder she wanted to live on a private island under the protection of Mr Onassis. I would want to live on an island to. Maybe not with Onassis though… Shudder.

x Pip

I love the miniseries and anything 'Kennedy'. A good book to read also is "The Kennedy Women" by Laurence Leamer. More about the actual Kennedy line, Rose and the daughters…T

I've been *obsessed* with this show! The gossip is still juicy 50 years later – they don't make scandal like that any more! I guess we'll never know what happened between Jackie & Bobby. The Kennedy boys were famous for philandering so there's that.
Best Supporting Actor – Greg Kinnear's hair. A thing of beauty, it was mesmerising!

Whenever I think of Jackie O I think of the part in the HBO dramatisation of Grey Gardens where Little Edie totally freaks out Jackie when she visits. It's hilarious – I love Little Edie SO much!

Recently reading some of Dominick Dunne's articles too, who absolutely hated the Kennedys. Dominick Dunne was such an interesting character.

I use to be obsessed with the Kennedys and when I was around 11 I visited Hammersmith Farms in Newport, Rhode Island. It's the childhood summer home of Jackie and where the Kennedys had their wedding and went to sometimes with their kids. I loved walking through the rooms and grounds, imagining her there.

You know, those that knew Onassis said he could be quite the charmer and irresistable if he wanted to be -in the way only powerful men can be.
A harem of the most beautiful and famous women who fell for him could probably vouch for that.
Maria Callas -the famous opera singer- it is said, never got over him and pined away until her death, never getting over him.

So don't knock it girls. I think Aris had more than a couple of tricks up his sleeve……

I'm about half way through The Kennedys. Am very much enjoying it … except for Katie Holmes maybe. I noticed you said something similar. She's a bit… wooden. But maybe Jackie was wooden, I'm not sure.

Still, a fascinating family, aren't they?

I didnt realise they were so close either but I think I'll choose to believe that he was such a caring and responsible man that he just loved her like a sister, and I guess after so many years of him being involved in their marrige it's no wonder they became close. I think Bobby was truly a loyal husband that loved his wife truly to the end….one of those fairy tale marriges perhaps? Definatly a great series…loved it and yep, Bobby was the most interesting character that's for sure…what a strong Man!

I loved it too! Until I watched it I didn't realise jackie & bobby had such a close relationship, so sad she lost him so early on, I'm a little intrigued to know more too…

It was a great series although I found episode 1 & 4 a bit 'choppy' in the editing.

I've been inspired to dig out my volume of C.David Heymann's "A Woman Named Jackie" and have found this lovely little anecdote:

Jackie's complete Yearbook legend at Miss Porter's reads as follows:

    JACQUELINE LEE BOUVIER
    "MERRYWOOD" MC LEAN, VIRGINIA
    "Jackie"

    Favourite Song: "Lime House Blues"
Always Saying: "Play a Rhumba next."
    Most Known For: Wit
Aversion: People who ask if her horse is still alive
    Where Found: Laughing with Tucky
Ambition: Not to be a housewife

    Interesting no?

Am off to explore the other links that have been left.

I'm with you – island, yes; Onassis, no way.

I watched The Kennedys and loved it! I've already bought the DVD (ABC online shop) for my dad's upcoming birthday. He was disappointed that he missed it.

There were so many things I didn't know about the Kennedys. And I found Bobby the most fascinating person in the miniseries. I just didn't know! I think the miniseries left it open to the audience about his relationship with Jackie. I think that there was definitely something deep between the two.

Such beautiful photos. There are always lots of Kennedy articles on vanityfair.com – I recently read this one, http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2009/10/death-of-a-president200910 – how sad she didn't have Bobby to rely on for very long.

Have you seen the Mad Men episode when everyone is watching her give the White House tour on tv? She had a very unusual voice.

Love, Love, Love Jackie too. I happened to stumble upon the last part of 'The Kennedys' too. Was quite rivetting. So much tragedy. Was intrigued by the Jackie/Bobby relationship. Looked like there was a very deep conection there. I would not pass up an opportunity to live on a Greek Island. But definitely No Onassis: uuggghh! (only his drachmas) xxx

I too loved this miniseries. Loved Greg Kinnear in the role. I think it showed a very human element to the Kennedy's with all their strengths and flaws. I thought Bobby was lovely too, and was not aware of the gossip (seems to me they were too busy anyway).
I too am intrigued and would love to find out more, but I guess it's difficult to know gossiip from fact.
