:: I Made A Dress

August 14, 2014

Oh hi! How are you? I am good! Phew.

I had a really good morning with Ari today. He just got himself sorted for school and breakfasted and everything without a peep of resistance. It’s not always like this. Mostly it’s like pushing an elephant through wet concrete whilst trying to balance a delicately arranged house of cards on its head. NOT EASY. I repeat. NOT EASY!

Still. We may have got it sorted. Today was really ace. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for easier new day starts! Good on you Arzz!

I wanted to show you a thing I made. It’s a dress! I KNOW! I haven’t sewn a dress in so long, but I thought I would make a few to take to the creative retreat I am teaching at in Bali. I wanted cotton, patterned and simple, so I think this super easy pattern fits the bill.

You can find the how-to for this dress over on the ever fabulous Purl Bee. It doesn’t take long to make and there are lots of things you could to do customise (pockets! beads on the ties! elastic instead of ties!) I am totally going to make some more like this. I think they are perfect for sunny days.

The fabric is from Spotlight (it was about $9/metre). It’s just a not-too-lightweight cotton. I don’t like sheer fabrics, but I don’t like stiff either. This sits somewhere in the middle. I like the neon pops in the pattern and I also love that the little squares help you to sew straight and keep your seam allowance even. Win!

I’m going to make a floral one, for when I’m feeling a bit less dot-matrix-y too! Stay tuned for a peek at that.

Smooches to you. Hope you are well!

x Pip

    What a gorgeous dress! Can’t believe the fabric is from Spotlight. I pinned a dress that looks like this very recently. So cute. xx

    You clever thing! The dress looks fabulous – hope to see its adventures in Bali 🙂
    The new blog design is sooooooooooooooo wonderful – could spend a whole day in here. I love the white background and nice big font, so you don’t have to squint, and a good size sidebar so you can actually see what’s what.
    It seems SO you – generous, bursting with happy things and no nonsense 🙂

    Hi Pip!

    This is gorgeous! Can you tell me, how long is this dress on you? I’m assuming you made it to the length on Purl Bee? I would love to make it, but I haven’t actually seen a picture of it on anyone, so I can’t actually quite work it out. Thankyou xxx

    Oh how lovely! I love the fabric! And snaps to your for sewing up a dress, it’s always easier to do and more fun when you have an idea of where you want to wear it. xo
