Giveaway: Really Ace Ethical Fashion via the Frank & Dolly’s Family

May 16, 2017

I’m pretty excited to be able to run this giveaway in cahoots with Rachel and Joel Cooper’s label, Frank & Dolly’s.

Rachel and Joel Cooper – who I met via Clare Bowditch’s Big Hearted Business – live with their gang of beautiful kiddos on  35 acres of delightful coastal bushland.

The cute pair say their cottage is “nestled in a forest that boasts thousands of trees, a river, a bridge, a studio and spectacular bird and wildlife” which sounds really idyllic and beautiful – and a bit cold at this time of year (although I am sure they have a lovely big crackling fire so I will shut up!)

R & J have a beautiful bricks-and-mortar shop  – as well as the Frank & Dolly’s label. They are totally hands-on and have careful production in mind when it comes to doing their thing – designing, handpainting fabrics and keeping a watchful eye over all elements to ensure a cute AND ethically made product. What’s not to love about that?

Lucky for us, R&J (and Frank & Dolly’s!) are giving away one piece – whichever piece you love the most – in their current range, Velvet Moon to a Meet Me At Mike’s reader.

You might be the lucky winner of said piece – see them ALL here – imagine that?!

To win – you need an Australian mailing address – and you need to comment below letting Rachel, Joel and me know – which piece you’d choose and why?

  • Our favourite entry – based on the most interesting, relatable and/or creative answer –  will win their chosen piece!
  • Entries close at midnight on Tuesday 23rd May.
  • Winner will be notified by email on Friday 26th May.

Quilted Jacket- I actually think about this too much, like three times a day… and in order to fully be present in my mummy’ing priveleges and tasks and my little crocheted handymakes to help feed afore-mention (3) kiddies I really (desperately) need to just be wrapped in this jacket every day from say…. this Friday? 🙂

I love, love, LOVE the Leather Moon Vest. It’s divine… and it’s the closest thing to my favourite suede jacket that was very sadly stolen last year. I got this jacket from a second-hand vintage shop in Japan and lived in it for pretty much nine years straight. It was a beauty! I went out for dinner (wearing this jacket) with a few friends last year and one of the lovely waitstaff took our jackets and coats. Post dinner and as we were leaving, the whereabouts of my jacket remained a mystery. Finally, after about 20 minutes, one of the other waitstaff recalled that another patron had described it as their jacket, wrongly claimed it as their own and walked straight on into the night wearing MY jacket – they’re clearly had their eye on it and hatched a not-so-nice plan to get their dirty mitts on it. It’s funny how things work – I gave that jacket a second or third lease on life, so all I hope is that its new owner is giving it the love it deserves.
Whilst the Leather Moon Vest isn’t necessarily they same design or shape, there’s something similar and something there that makes me think it might be the reincarnation of this jacket and just the one for me!

Oh what beautiful clothes. It’s very hard to choose. I think if I wore any of the velvet items I would be too busy feeling myself the entire day, which just wouldn’t do for a mum of 3. I’d have to choose a gypsy skirt, looks comfortable, light, practical yet lovely.

  • Reply Kate May 20, 2017 at 9:38 PM

Oh me oh my. The linen embroidered too in Sky – for sure. Dreamy threads.

I’d LOVE the velvet wrap dress in peacock!
Firstly because blue is my colour BUT its also time to get a lucky dress!

I spoiled myself with my very first frank and dolly dress just before Christmas last year. I got the colour eclipse classic (in blue of course!), came into the store with my massive pram, baby and toddler in tow. Made a mess on the floor because I kept handing said children biscuits to keep them busy while I tried dresses on. Fell in love instantly!
    Breastfeeding friendly – check
    Unique – check
Flattering and overall amazing – check

Went home, super pumped to wear it for Christmas Day. Stared longingly at it for two weeks before *ahhhhh* the glorious moment I get to wear it! Literally got the kids and hubby in the car to go out and put the dress on just before heading out the door so no weetbix could be thrown at it, 5 mins later arrive. I’m walking around feeling AMAZING and then my daughter literally grabs my hand and VOMITS into my lap *dying*

I’m ashameded to say as a mum my first thought was “my dressssssss!!!” Very quickly replaced with “OMG what’s going on with my toddler!”

Turns out miss 2.5 had a severe bout of gastro and spent the rest of the day in hospital, not the best way to spend our first Christmas as a family of 4!

Long story short my beautiful Christmas day dress was worn for about 10 mins before #mumlife kicked in. BUT I’m so grateful your beautiful clothing withstands toddlers and is made for #mumlife!!!!! Came up perfectly clean and fresh and ready to go for a new trial run for New Year’s Eve and I’m so pleased that it was a happy ending! Would LOVE another piece to make beautiful (and sometimes messy!) mum memories in xx

In winter in Melbourne, the days start quietly. The sun glitters as it rises, into a softly blue sky. The light is drapey, because the sun is low, and appears differently based on the orientation of streets in the suburb. You might swap sides of the street so that a ray of light will flit across your cheeks, pinched pink by the frosty air. The gentle damp smell of cold earth is cuddled by the smell of wood smoke from cosy fireplaces. I feel like I have winter time secrets, cosy in a Dimond Quilted Jacket, with embroidered shapes that hold the magic of someone else’s winter story.

I’m going to have to pull the typical ‘I’m a poor uni student’ card who is in 4th year of uni. I would absolutely love the teal linen overalls, denim bomber or quilted jacket as a bit of a treat yo’ self for finishing my last year of uni without going crazy. I’ve had my eye on Frank and Dolly’s pieces for a while but have never been able to quite manage them in the budget before with the two minute noodles and eggs taking priority.
    Love love love ??

  • Reply Holly Lewtas May 17, 2017 at 6:22 PM

I literally made an audible gasp the first time I saw the denim diamond bomber! And I’m pretty sure I’d wear the heck out of the diamond linen dress. Another delicious collection from this amazing duo xx

  • Reply Janelle May 17, 2017 at 6:07 PM

Oh my, I need that teal diamond quilted jacket! Help a mama out! Breastfeeding is severely limiting my wardrobe choices but this gem of a jacket would make winter a dream – it perfectly matches my fave teal suede boots…and because I’m a matchy-matchy nerd, my teal quilted nappy bag (yup, it really is teal and quilted!!!)

I fell in love with all your gorgeous wares when I popped in to the shop over the summer holidays.
After years of trying we’d pretty much given up hope of conceiving naturally and have been very surprised to find out we are expecting this year! Mind blown!
As a mumma bear I’m sure you can understand that my changing body is making me feel all kinds of love and hate for my new shape and I think a Horizons of Gold Tunic Dress may just be the beautiful flowy hidey glam that I need to pick me up some! xox

  • Reply Julie Watts May 17, 2017 at 2:34 PM

Accidently stumbled across this in my email clean up…. what an opportunity!
I fell for the Diamond Poet Jacket straight away. Would pick my wardrobe up no end and me more to the point me.

  • Reply Margaret May 17, 2017 at 9:36 AM

Yes the Diamond Quilted jacket would look good on my Grandaughter. I used to take her to Frank & Dollys in Moorabool Street all those years ago. She is a Zoology grad now and would love the surprise and memories from way back when a day our with Nanna was cool

The moment I saw the Horizons Skirt I was taken back to my teenage years where I use to sew up all my clothes (as it was cheaper but also because I loved doing it) skip forward 25 years and life is too busy to be sewing up a storm anymore (although I have been dreaming of getting back in to it lately) Anyhoo……. I love love love the deep yoke of this skirt and the frilled base is just so beautiful and feminine. I’m on the larger size so the sheared back will be forgiving to my indulgences. Thank you for bringing Frank and Dolly’s range to my world – they truly are all beautiful!

  • Reply Angela Harben May 17, 2017 at 7:56 AM

Oh so cute can’t take my eyes off that diamond poet jacket would look great at work in the library
    Thanks Pip

  • Reply Bec May 17, 2017 at 6:57 AM

Okay – well that’s fun, I love everything! Simple but striking styles, happily in my preferred colour ways.
When I get the chance to go out, I like to dress in beautiful clothing, with thoughtful designs and from kind companies. Frank and Dolly certainly fit the bill. Now, to pick one thing …. The Sparks Pants – Devine.

  • Reply Ella May 17, 2017 at 12:32 AM

Everything here looks absolutely amazing, but I can’t stop looking at the chambray patch skirt.
My mum is an avid maker of beautiful things and would make her own clothing when she didn’t have enough money to buy them, and sew quilts to keep me and my brothers warm in winter. The patches on this skirt remind me of the beautifully crafted quilts I used to have as a child, and winning this skirt would be like wearing a little piece of my childhood.

  • Reply Jessica May 17, 2017 at 12:25 AM

Those plum linen overalls look like they’d be the best comfortable statement piece to travel the world in, and I would decorate them with pins and patches from every place they visited.

  • Reply Sue Wall May 16, 2017 at 11:17 PM

i love popping into Frank & Dolly to see what’s in store & to have a chat about crafting & travelling. I always seem to leave the shop with something glorious – jewellery, homewear or clothing. Currently, I have a pair of the gorgeous overalls (in teal) on lay by and can’t wait to collect them. I would like the Dianond Linen Dress, not for me but to gift to someone near & dear to me. It would make me so incredibly happy to make someone so incredibly happy. Win, win.

F&D tick every box for me: ethical, local, family, love, conscious, creative, unique, soulful, slow, authentic…
I can’t look past the poet jacket in charcoal blue!

  • Reply Fiona May 16, 2017 at 9:52 PM

I’m always on the lookout for snazzy pieces that I can whip a nipple out of. The Linen Overalls look like they’d fit the bill – even if the buttons are decorative, I reckon I could sneak a boob out the side for stylish baby snacking.

  • Reply Kathryn Darveniza May 16, 2017 at 9:35 PM

I am so lucky to visit this store every week or so to ogle at there dreamy designs and the happy banter when you walk in ( even with a pram and 2 year old in tow). I would love Denim Diamond Bomber it reminds me that each day is a blessing the sun will always rise and set, the moon is always magical and to see each rainbow is cool ( my 2 year old Flynns quote

  • Reply Michelle May 16, 2017 at 8:45 PM

I love them all but would loves to wear the specks cardigan in black on a special date night out for dinner after two babies ????

  • Reply Jess Quilty May 16, 2017 at 8:10 PM

    Because I am a mummy
    I have a wobbly tummy
But I like to look pretty
    When I’m visiting the city
    I need a top that’s spacious
    So I can look vivacious
To make my wish come true
Can I (please) win the Poet Top in blue?

    xxx

PS: I’m not very tall, so I would choose a ‘Small’

  • Reply Alison M May 16, 2017 at 8:08 PM

I visited their shop a few months ago, and walked out, to be completely honest, feeling not ‘cool’ enough for their clothing. I loved every piece, I love their style, and love their vibe, but wondered if it really suited me? If you can make this hippy wanna be, farmer, gumboot wearing mum feel lovely in a Horizons skirt, then all the power to frank and dolly. Thanks

  • Reply Clare May 16, 2017 at 8:03 PM

Oh how I love their store. I’ve been dreaming about their latest range. I’d love to be able to pull the Diamond Linen Dress in teal from my cupboard. I can see it being worn with a long sleeved tee, tights and my new vintage denim jacket and my doc martins. I can see this dress on hot summer days with my Sandals in hand while we stroll the beaches on the Bellarine peninsula. When there’s a little one to run around after it’s such a treat to pull on a gorgeous dress at any time of the year.

  • Reply Jasmine May 16, 2017 at 8:03 PM

Oh how much I LOVE to peruse the amazing items in Frank & Dollys, gosh I remember their tiny little store on Moorabool was one of the first I visited moving to geelong all those years ago!!!!! I soooooooo would love the overalls in teal – they look so easy to throw Over a stripe tee and so comfy!!!!!! Or those quilted jackets OMG!!!!!!! Love this comp, thanks for the chance
    Xx

  • Reply Reannon May 16, 2017 at 5:50 PM

There is literally NOTHING in their store I wouldn’t wear! It’s as if they’ve popped into my brain & had a shuffle through all the thoughts I’ve ever had while trying to find clothes I like while getting grumpy because I can’t find anything I like & then magicked up my ideal wardrobe!!! Freaking awesome stuff!!!
But if I had to choose one thing it’d be either the overalls or pinafore because 1. I flipping love overalls 2. I’m yet to find a pinafore that suits my wide hips & 3. Both of these styles make me think I’m fun & young again, not just a mum of 4 doing all the mum stuff & they remind me clothes are meant to make you feel good about yourself not make you bemoan the fact that your body shape isn’t perfect.
Thanks for showing us great stuff Pip x

  • Reply Nicole May 16, 2017 at 5:27 PM

Well, after three babies in four years and pretty much wearing the same clothes I think I deserve something new. Currently, I’m breastfeeding our three week old (literally right now!) so whatever i choose must be breastfeeding friendly. So, either the Horizons wrap dress or Leaves of Gold tunic would be perfect.
I’ll be watching Rachel and Joel’s store, especially when our littlest love weans herself. Thanks Pip for making me aware of Frank and Dolly

I quite fancy myself wearing the plum linen overalls to work in my little Art School, teaching art to kids and cleverly incorporating the accidental paint splatters into my look. All the while channelling my inner Benita on Playschool circa 1985. It is very important to look the part when making amazing things from tissue boxes, bottle tops and cardboard tubes!

  • Reply Catherine Hallam May 16, 2017 at 4:41 PM

Oooh I visited their store once and it was to die for!
I would love to win the linen overalls in plum. I had a pair of light purple overalls as a kid, and I adoooooored them. But unfortunately, they suffered from the wear and tear that kids inflict, and became faded and worn, and I think my mum must have removed them from my wardrobe, because I don’t know what happened to them, but gosh I miss them so!
These would be the perfect replacement for my favourite childhood outfit. They’re darker in colour, full length, and a bit more ‘grown-up’, but whenever I wore them I’d know that I was giving a cheeky wink to my childhood self 😉

  • Reply Gina May 16, 2017 at 4:39 PM

When I was a kid I would watch Play School and I would always pick the arch window. I also never wore dresses.
Now I would choose the diamond windows embroidered on a linen dress.

Oh wow! What a gorgeous shop!!! I would definitely be keen on the Diamond Quilted Jacket, it’s a stunner! I became a soccer Mum 3 weeks ago, and it dawned on me recently it’s about to get freeeeezing cheering from the sidelines. This jacket would keep me warm, and set me apart from the other soccer Mums! I reckon I’d feel great.
