Hello Pip-Life

:: Five Random Things

February 24, 2015

Do you want to play Five Random Things? I am sure you do! It’s quite fun to mine the depths of your you-ness and come ups with a few weird/interesting facts to share. Like, what could be better than that? (Except watching Family Feud with a cup of tea and a bit of crochet in your lap?!)

Here are mine..

1. I love non-brainiac TV. I love the Real Housewives, Family Feud, The Bachelor (US), I’m A Celebrity and more. I can’t help it. I find those shows really interesting and fun and they help me relax. I used to watch Mob Wives, but there was too much punching so I stopped that.

2. I once stole a Barbie dress from a friend. I was about 7 and I loved the dress so much… It was so glittery and pretty. I was just going to have a TURN OF IT at my house and slipped it into my pocket to show my Barbie later. After I’d gone home, my friend noticed it was missing and her mum phoned my mum. Argh. We took it straight back, but I can still feel the SHAME of it.

3. I used to have a really sharp memory, but it’s not as good now. Over the last few years it’s lost a bit of it’s super sharpness. I wonder if it’s fatigue or growing older or maybe having lots of things going on?

4. Once, when I was little, we went fishing and I caught a tiny baby shark. I was quite terrified and the line cut my hand. I can’t remember what happened after the terror/bleeding.

5. One Christmas, when I was around 12, I got the mumps and no one would come near me on Christmas Day. My glands were amazingly swollen and it was a bit lonely.

Tell me yours in the comments? Or leave a link, if you do it on your own blog?

x Pip

PS: I promise that I learnt my lesson about being a criminal. I’ve changed my ways and are no longer tempted by flashy Barbie frocks or anything else.

    3. yoga is so much more fun than i thought it ever could be because my teacher is the spiritual kinda yogi, not the sweaty-in-a-gym kind
    4. paleo diets = SO not me
    5. my stepsons are successful, beautiful young adults and i am so proud i had – however small – a role to play in their lives

I stole a caterpillar from my friend’s house once. We were playing with it in the garden, and I loved it so much I took it home. I can’t remember what happened to it, but I do remember my friend saying she looked for it after I left and couldn’t find it.

    Hello Pip 🙂
I know I’m a bit late to this discussion but I love “randoms” so here goes:

    1. I have an incredible memory for the details of people’s life stories and my friends all groan when I bring up Primary and High School memories that they would prefer remained unremembered! At my 20 year High School Reunion I had to be careful not to sound like a crazed stalker because I remembered so much about my old classmates 🙂

    2. I have always asked “The Big Questions” of life. In Grade 3, I gave a presentation, using balloons, about life not being measured in a straight line of years but in vertical, horizontal and wavy lines of time. My Mum always normalised my need to analyse everything so my teacher’s and classmates confused responses were quite shocking to me.

    3. As an antidote to “The Big Questions” I love slightly frivolous TV shows such as Gilmore Girls, 90210 and Sex and The City.

    4. I also love clothes.

    5. I have danced all my life. Firstly in organised classes, then in performances for Uni and now, in my own bedroom. After my Mum died, I danced to shift the weight of the grief and whenever I am stressed, sad, angry or scared, I use dancing as an antidote. I also dance when I’m happy and my boys like to dance too but they usually tire of it long before I do xxxx

    Hi Pip

    Thanks for sharing!

    My five random things
    1. I love watching my children sleep if they have come into our bed in the middle of the night and I wake to find one of them next to me. Their facial expressions make me smile.

    2. When I was in grade 4 I bought some Christmas presents for some of my friends. I decided after one of my friends had opened theirs and left in their backpack i didn’t want them to have it and stole it and gave it to another friend. (When i think about this i am quite shocked at my behaviour)

    3. I like reading old children’s classics by Enid Blyton like the magic faraway tree

    4. I am more disorganised now than I was 10 years ago. I was already becoming disorganised and then I had kids… And I don’t get it because when I was in my teens/early twenties people used to compliment my organisational skills!

    5. I am a closet fan of Phil Collins!
    Have an awesome day
    5.

Gosh, I enjoyed thinking about this – and then I had to blog it too because otherwise I might forget because….the memory thing you mentioned…maybe it’s a chronic ’69 thing? But, anyway, thanks for sharing and making me think…I always love that!

What a fun thing to do. I’ve done a little blog post about my five random things and now I find myself thinking of five more. Maybe it’s something to do now and then, a lovely way to get to know your readers a bit more and them to get to know you a bit more. Thanks Pip 🙂

    hmmm, 5 random things….
    1. My back left wisdom tooth is only half the tooth it used to be. The dentist took a grinder to it and ground it down halfway so I don’t get food stuck between it and my gum! ewww!
    2. If I forget to put on my rings before heading out the door…I feel naked!
    3. The ocean washes away my troubles.
    4. I love love love Indian vegetarian food.
    5. I’ve lived in 5 different countries: Malaysia, Australia, England, Nepal and Canada.

    That was fun!

I can’t help but comment on your #3 – Hold on to your hat, my dear. If your aging goes anything like mine, you’re in for a wild ride. I am about 50-1/2 and my mental sharpness is currently laughable. My nickname used to be Xerox because I had such a good memory. There are hormonal changes that ebb and flow during this time and it drives me CRAZY! The good news is that once my hormones settle down, I should back to almost-as-good-as-new mentally, anyway. Don’t get me started about my aching joints, however 🙂
