:: Five Faves….

May 18, 2010

1. Soup : I’ve been feeling totally exhausted lately. It’s been a fairly huge 12 months for us and I think the turtle is coming home to roost. Or something. You have to love a mixed metaphor. My point is that I LOVE the meditative approach that is making soup and I LOVE, even more, the fortifying feeling of eating soup. We’ve been eating a lot of soup around here. Especially this one. And also I have been making breakfast pizzas. But that is a whole other subject….

2. Breakfast pizzas : Pizza base plus tomato sugo plus whatever cheese you like (or no cheese) plus some pepper and sea salt and herbs. In the oven, out of the oven, slice some fresh tomato or whatever you have lying about on top of it when it’s hot and crunchy. Maybe some avocado. Maybe some leftover chicken schnitzel, like Rin did. Maybe a few olives or a piece of ham or some fetta. Some chilli sauce even? Delicious and comforting.

3. Lark Rise To Candleford : If you haven’t caught this series, it’s really so cute. Costume drama a la BBC, loosely based on the writings of Flora Thompson. Flora spun several novels loosely based on her own life in the hamlet of Juniper Hill (Lark Rise) in the late 1800s. The books were published between 1935 and 1945 and detail the lives of the villagers and Laura, the character Flora based on herself. The TV series is really adorable in the way that only the BBC can achieve. It’s sweet and funny and sad and smart all at the same time. Yes. It’s even a bit schmaltzy. And I love a bit of schamltz. Fields of wheat, muddy meadows, stone cottages and elevenses abound. Luckily, it’s just been announced that Season 4 will begin filming soon. But don’t wait for that. You can catch Dawn French, Julia Sawalha, Linda Bassett, Olivia Hallinan, Claudie Blakley and my super fave Ruby Bentall (Minnie) in Season 1 to 3 on DVD now. I bought my copies on eBay, but the ABC Shop has it too. It also screens on UKTV if you have Foxtel (for our Australian readers!)

4. Awesome Kids with Awesome Blogs : I’m not talking about mini fashionistas. Nope. I’m talking about way cooler kids than that. I think blogs are great for kids. They can document their lives, file their artwork and improve their literacy. They can meet other people’s awesome kids and leave constructive comments about the things they are doing. They can learn about software, hardware and photography. If monitored carefully, moderated thoughtfully and approached with a trusted adult co-pilot I think it is a great thing. Some of my faves are Draw Dimension, Skulls From Awesome and Leo’s Lego Lab. Check them out and leave some happy words for the kids. They will run the country when you are elderly, so now is a good time to start fostering good relations.

5. Sabine Finkenauer : who I discovered via one of my super-fave bloggers ii-ne-kore

6. Blog Cutifying : (Ooops. That is SIX!) So, I added the Navigation Bar to my blog again, so you can easily search (accurately!) for anything you might have read in the past. Also I prettied it up big time. So if you are reading this in a reader you are totes missing out. It is the schizzle over here with confetti and kinder triangles and even more good stuff!

Would you like to join in and make a list of 5 things you love this week? Add your link in below…. or leave a comment and we will click about and see what you like too! I think it’s good to share the good stuff, don’t you?

xx Pip
