Did you join our Book Club last month? It’s a very relaxed book club, actually. There’s a whole BUNCH of books you can choose to read. You can take your time reading… The only thing you really NEED to do is report in here or here and let us know what you’re reading and how it’s going! (We do that here on the first Tuesday of each month).
You may have read a bit of a book in a month if you are super busy… or maybe you read several books in that time. It really doesn’t matter. It’s up to you!
Here’s the book list again. It’s based on the ABC’s First Tuesday Book Club’s poll on Australia’s favourite books. Probably there’s some you’ve read already, but maybe, like me, there’s books in there you have wanted to read and didn’t get to yet? Now is the time!
I read Cloudstreet first. Gosh. This book seems to polarize people. A lot of people LOVE it and a lot just go ‘Meh’. I LOVED IT. I had never read anything by Tim Winton before (gosh!) I am so glad I did. It’s such a lovely, rambly, poetic book. Not a word is wasted, in my opinion. It’s the kind of book that makes me let out a little sigh after each chapter. I could have read this in a day, I reckon, but I didn’t have a whole day to do it, so I read it in snippets whenever I could. In the car waiting for school pick-up time. In the queue at the airport waiting to check baggage. In a taxi. Before bed. I made time where there seemed to be none, really and it was the best thing I could have done.
I don’t want to give too much away, in case you haven’t read it, but I will say that Oriel is my favourite character, that Pickles & Lamb is pure genius and that watching Rosie grow up was hard and beautiful. And Fish. Gosh. And Quick. Sigh. Such great characters.
Have you watched the series? It’s on iTunes and it’s wonderful. A great adaptation, I think.
Next, I’m reading The Harp In The South Trilogy. I’m a few chapters in and finding it GREAT but quite hard work. I WILL persevere! I know it’s going to be worth it.
What are you reading? Would you like to join us? I’ve started a group for us on Facebook here, so we can chat whenever we like. Click through and ask to join, if that suits you! And just leave a comment below if you are going to read along. (You don’t HAVE to join the Facebook group. It’s just a bonus thing!)
Have you read Cloudstreet? (Please, no spoilers in the comments here!)
